Total Newb here. I want to build a system

Well if your not doing the subwoofer as of now then you do not need that directed class d amp. You should get yourself a decent highs amp. You cant use that class d on the highs. So I would look into some alpine type R componets you could get cheap for the front. Then do a set of R's coxails in the back. So you would be all alpine. Is some good stuff for a budget. Good luck!

With all of that there you would be at 650 and then shipping charges, so about 700 or so. It would be a good start and all you would have to add is a nice sub woofer amp and sub. I would also recommend the Type R for you as well when you get the extra cash. Hope that helped. Peace!

If I was you, I'd get some cheap speakers Lighting audio speakers for the front and back for under 100.00.

Keep your amp for the speakers.

Get 1 Type R 12, for about 140.00 even.

Get a decent 600-1000 watt amp for about 200.

Thats 1 12 will get loud enough to shake the stuff in your car, and be heard pulling in parking lots, if in a nice box.

That's all under 450.00

I think the best advice would be to go to the local shops in your area and listen to the different speakers and decks they have. Once you find out what you like, buy it online. Note that some brands cannot be bought online and are sold exclusively at stores. If you search for it though, you might find a non-authorized dealer that sells it or you can buy used from ebay or the classifieds forum. Whatever you decide to go with, do not skimp on anything. Because if you do and buy it, you might regret it later on and upgrade which will end up costing you more money.

With a stock infinity system, why would he downgrade to lightning speakers that can be had for uner 100 for 2 pairs?

Personally I would drop the 6x9's in the front and go with a set of 6.5" component speakers (a little modification with some MDF and you *should* be able to fit them in the stock location if that's your desire). Type-x are a good bang for the buck set, running around $220 online. Then if you really want rear fill pick up a pair of lower end MB quarts or some infinity kappas, both decent speakers that are failry cheap. Say around $100 for that (guess). For two sets of speakers find yourself a nice 4 channel amp. PowerAcoustik has some amps that are very good for the money, say another $100 there.

The next thing is to upgrade the HU. Look at some pioneer, or that alpine is a nice deck that people have reccomended. If you can get high voltage perouts, great, otherwise not a huge deal. Look to spend around $200ish on the HU.

That puts you a little over $600 without shipping, so say $700.

Now, that should sound great....but if you're looking to add a subwoofer as well you can probably still pull it off for under $1,000. Look into possibly an av12 (http://www.aespeakers.com) or possibly a used atlas. Both are great performing subs on a budget. That'll run you a little under $200 shipped (less for an atlas), which leaves $100-$150 for an amp. Not sure of impedence matches because I am not looking at the subs right now, but a solid amp is the directed 750d someone mentioned they had for sale. You can pick up a refurb for $100 from ikesound (not sure how much the seller wanted here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif) which is right in your price range. That amp does 600 watts at 1 ohm, 400 @ 2, and 275 @ 4 IIRC. Don't get fooled by less than 1000 watts though...in the right enclosure and efficient driver doesn't need anywhere near that much //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So over all, my reccomendation. Get a set of components for the front, rear fill speakers, an amp, and a new HU. Those should always be the first components of a system to be upgraded. After that, if you've got money, think about a sub and sub amp. I reccomended some stuff, but that is by no means the "best" or a comprehensive list of equipment, look around and ask some questions about certain things and decide which is best for you.

Cris, in your avatar...why would you put a HardDrive (aka iPod) directly next to a gigantic magnet? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

wanna hear something even dumber? I didn't realize this till after I took the picture.. AND the ipod kept inching toward the magnet, even getting caught on it at one point. hahhaha.. It's fine though, it's still playing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I would buy one of Xtant's refurbished 403a's off thier website for $200. It is an insanely clean amp with gobs of power, and well suited to your needs as it is a 3-channel. The sub channel can handle a 2ohm load and it gives 250wrms there (honest wattage) and it does about 75 or so to the fronts (runs my dls comps perfect and my Iridium 10) This thing is a powerhouse and they can be got on the cheap direct from the manufacturer. Check them out: http://www.xtant.com/direct/details.cfm?PN=403AR

Whats the word on BOSS amps? some really good deals on Ebay on them.

Phoenix amps on overstok are really cheap. I dont know much about them either.

I am definately going with the Alpine unit. I have decided on an amp between 600- 1000 watt 4 channel.

Now, the thing I havent a clue about is what speakers can work with an amp between 600- 1000 watts? All this ohms stuff and decibals.lol I dont get it. I never paid attention in my teens to it and now I am needing to learn.lol

Will the Alpine components listed above in several posts work for amps between 600-1000 watts?

I have decided on 6.5's for front and rear. I will wait till the summr for the sub when the weather is cold.

I really appreciate all the different advice and different perspectives all of you have provided.

The chances of you needing 600-1000 watts for your speakers is VERY slim. Decide on the speakers first, then match up with an amp. I'm *guessing* that you're going to need something close to a 4x75watt amp (@ 4 ohms) for your interior speakers. That is assuming a typical speaker in your price range which will look for somewhere between 50-90 watts in most cases.
