Toshiba Notebooks ... Opinions?

Eh Dere Hi Dere Ho-ser
Specifically the M60-CD4 (1.73GHz / 80GB) and M60-BK3 (1.86GHz / 100GB).

The M60-CD7 (2.00GHz / 120GB) is a little out of my price range I think.

Feel free to suggest others in that price range. (Sony, Compaq, HP, etc?) Pretty sure I don't want an Acer, definitely don't want a Dell.

I'm not too picky, but I'd like a 17" screen, 80GB would be nice, (1.73GHz+ [does this matter much?] ), weight doesn't matter, battery life isn't too big of a worry as it'll likely be plugged in most of the time. Speed is always nice ... I understand I'll have to pay more. I guess all of them pretty much come standard with a DVD burner. Oh, I won't be playing any games on it - might watch the odd DVD with it (not expecting TV quality picture).

Thanks guys. Basic computer knowledge here, so I turn to you.

The "weight doesn't matter" and "battery life isn't too big of a worry as it'll likely be plugged in most of the time" thing gives me the impression that you'll be using this as a home computer ... In which case I advise against a laptop ...

first of all, laptops for home use are great... you can sit, watch the game, and do homework...

second... compaqs ARE HP, so and both are well built...

Toshibas ARE good laptops.. well built...

I SUGGEST IBM Thinkpads because they have a 3year warranty, no questions asked... You can throw them in water and they'll work... Customer support is a HUGE thing when buying a computer...

gateway support SUCKs... and if you want a dell and have problems with it, expect to talk to Indians...

By weight doesn't matter I mean that I've seen most of them in and around the 5-8lb region ... which isn't a big deal to me.

4 hours of battery life is plenty.

I don't want to give the impression that this'll be just another home computer. It'll be packed around from place to place.

Seems pretty good, I'm a Mac guy myself... new Apple notebooks should be coming out early next month with Intel processors...
I'm definitely not a Mac guy, but I've heard nothing but good things about the Powerbooks - however, the 12" is the only one in my price range //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I live in British Columbia. I haven't spoken to an English-first-language speaking person on the phone regarding customer service in a few years.

And I want to ask ...

I'd like to buy in the beginning of the new year, which is why I'm looking now.

Are prices going to drop a little on the items I'm looking at, as bigger and better things become available? Or will it be an insignificant decrease?
