tips for not blowing new subs

like the title says... just got two RD Sonances installed with a 1000.1RD amp running at 1 ohm and 35 hz. everything sounds good an clean... i just want to know if you guys have any tips or suggestions on how not to blow new subs... im been running the bass knob at about 1/4 for 2 days and everything seems fine... im afraid to turn it up anymore because i dont want them to blow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Some will tell you to break them in i personally didnt with my btl but it is still stiff so but the way i have heard you break them in is play like at 5htz tone at low volume ovenight that should do it

If it doesn't sound right don't chance it. Your subs can last a long time on a clipped signal, and then just die one day.

how will i know? will it sound bad? they sound fine right now, not distorted or anything... im prob. just bieng overcautious

Yea don't send a clipping signal.

Make sure your not hearing voices out of your woofers.

Bass knobs do cause distortion if not used properly.

Make sure your your voice coil isn't hitting your magnent.

They usually take 100hours of playing time.

But each woofer is different.

I did used to own 2 15 btls and I played them fully tilt and after a month were still kind of stiff.

Anthing lower then 12v isn't good for your woofers.

And can send a clipping signal.

Some amps have a clipping indicator.

But just watch your voltage and you should be fine.

i think all these post were stupid as hell.

there is a tutorial on how to set you gain for your subs

this means you will not be clipping the amp. a clipped signal will blow your subs faster then over powering them. you dont really need to break them in, just listen for odd noises or if it starts to stink.

if it does back down on the volume, you should also get a volt meter, they are very handy. if you see your voltage dropping into the low 11's turn it down.

to "break them in" just play them and dont do something stupid like play them all out with your car off.

Just be careful of your voltage and make sure there is no weird noises.

Some subs can take months to break in.

My 2 15" L7s havent broken in yet and its been about 7 months,but I also only get about 1 hour of playtime a week IF that sometimes depending upon if I feel like driving my truck since its not a daily.

your best bet is to set your amp using a 50hz test tone recorded @ 0 db and a dmm. do you know how to do that?
