tint or alarm first???

well that kinda brought a new light to my eye...

are there any good threads or tutorials on alarm installation. i knnow all vehicles are different and i wont have a problem finding the wires but i hate thinking to take it to a shop to do it...not to mention the money it would cost
Here are some wiring diagram sites: http://www.modifiedlife.com/2005-pontiac-grand-am-car-security-wiring-diagram/ and http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~94625

Although this pertains to Honda/Acura, it does have some good reading: http://www.causeforalarm.thecarthing.com/

ETA: I would still probe and test my wires before connecting them to the alarm because I have a hard time placing blind faith in an online wiring diagram!

No offense, but you think the Best Buy twerps can do a proper install on your alarm when they have it done in 30 minutes to an hour? Hell, even the local custom shops charge top dollar for a poor install. When I say top dollar, I am saying they charge close to $400 for an install that has the alarm brain zip tied to the steering column or within two feet of the smart junction box. Oh, that $400 is in addition to what you pay for the alarm! Regardless, my point is that most local "professionally" installed alarm systems can be defeated in 5 to 10 seconds:eek:
It is all a matter of economics over ethics. The faster they get the alarm installed, the more money they make off the install. So what if a 12 year old can disable it in 10 seconds.....

One last thing... the locals won't even do anything that disables the starter or fuel pump for liability reasons. The rumor I heard was that one of the local shops was sued relay went bad, thus disabling the vehicle. Now NO ONE in town even bothers to protect the vehicle from getting b

oosted thanks to some sue happy ******* prick.
My post directed at the op. I never said that the guys at bby could or would do that. That is of course dependant on the guys at his local bby I know of a few people that work at best buy and do CORRECT alarm installs for customers daily but that is discussion for another time. And always always always test wires prior to making connections.

I will admit that BB does have some good installers, but they are few and far between. I am good friends with an installer who got his start at BB... He just grew tired of fixing other people's mistakes so he moved on.

Oh, I just thought of another reason why you really, really, need to trust your installer when it comes to an alarm! In the mid to late 90s, there was a particular shop that went the extra mile when installing an alarm, yet some of the customer's cars ended up broken into and/or stolen with no signs of forced entry and no sound from the alarm. Come to find out, the installer was coding an extra remote to the alarm on these vehicles and would use it to unlock the vehicle via the keyless. He was part of a major theft ring involving vehicles and electronics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
