Thoughts on idea for new setup? Am I out of date?

I would do the most optimal box for a ported 12" and fit at least one secondary battery back there instead of using all the space for a 15. You can have the sub up and the port facing back.
But what if I can fit 3.7 cubes for a 15 and still fit the battery? Can the sub be up and port be vertical like in the photo above? Or does the port need to be be like this?

Just a thought you can fit a single 15 in a smaller box tuned below 38hz single slot port or octaport.

Run a brazillian amp to up the power a bit on a lower end electrical.

Just watch voltage if near 12.4-12.5..

You can rip it on demos and for daily you should be good.

Smaller boxes will just more power then normal.

Thoughts?
You should have the port firing back, not up. In general, you're better off with a 12" in ample airspace than a 15" suffocating in a box that's too small.
The port can be faced anyway you like, but its recommended that the surface its facing has been deadened or fiberglassed with resin to keep the vibrations low.

In a hatchback its best to do port back sub up

i was going to say this.

space makes bass. dont try and cram a 15" back there and have to go on the small side for box.

for that space i would do a 12" in the right size box for the sub/power .

Thinking 3.7 net is too small?

Also, when I refer to the port as vertical or horizontal I still mean sub up port back. Just wondering if I can run a slot port vertically facing back or does it need to be a horizontal port like the box above with the strokers in it.

Here's a good idea of what I'm working with.

Now I could gain 2 full inches of height if I take out my carpet and spare tire. I go to 4.297 before sub displacement if I add the height. I'd really like to avoid that though.
