I would love go build something like that for fun, anyone have any idea how the spheres are implemented? Maybe Area of transducer = 1/2 surface area of sphere?

An educated guess, and then trial and error probably. Markus Duevel makes some pretty crazy *** speakers, all of which are omni-directional.
