Thinking about getting a Tahoe

Thoughts?

My dad has one that just sits around so i think i'm going to buy it from him. It's a 99 and its in perfect condition. Doesn't really have any miles on it either, i dont think. It's the 5.3l fully loaded (which doesn't really mean a whole lot in a tahoe).

I probably wont do a whole lot to it, i had thought about dropping in an LS1 but i doubt i will. I'm thinking i'll just build up a honda or something like i wanted to and make the girlfriend drive it.... except for when i want to of course. Probably build an enclosure for some kind of 8 in the center console.

Seems like a good vehicle to take on roadtrips with the girlfriend. It'll also be nice to have for when we move to virginia next year. I recorded 20-22mpg when i took it to Durango, Colorado.

Any thoughts? I know they have problems with the radiators and cooling systems but thats already been addressed in this vehicle.

Are you sure the mileage was calculated correctly? I do not see how a 5.3L 99 Tahoe (box on wheels) could ever get 20-22 mpg unless it was being towed by a diesel truck. I'm thinking it would be closer to 15mpg highway.

I think so.

I would like a diesel though, oh well.

My dads 03 Yukon gets pretty good gas mileage so I would imagine that tahoe doesn't do bad(on the highway anyways). The only problem with vehicles like that is it costs a lot of money to fill them up when you have to. It costs near 70-80 dollars around here right now to fill that bish up. On the bright side however, I can go to OKC and back on one tank a gas and still have a quarter tank left over.

My 99 6spd manual Ford diesel gets 21 mpg on a good day on the highway. The average would have to be 17.5-18 mpg. My truck does weigh around 6500 lbs though. It's finally nice again now that diesel is cheaper than regular unleaded, although I have not had to pay for fuel for the past year (job perk).

If your father will sell it to you cheap, I say get it.

eh, i'd feel bad if he gave me something and i just turned around and sold it... like i might do with this vehicle. and i'm too old to be taking gifts like that from my parents.

I have no idea how old you are but that is a very adult thing to say/ do. Too many younglings think their parents owe them everything.
