Thinking about Cone area, power handling, and motor force.

I beat 16 10s on 5k in a wall with a pair of 12s on 2500 no wall by 2db. Just saying.
And Alex could barely break 150 with a half a dozen 15s on 30KW.

Apples to oranges here, this does not mean a pair of 12s beats 16 10s every day of the week, it means the guy with the 10s is a retard.

Informative as always. Thank you. Honestly I have no clue what I want anymore. 2 18s doesn't sound too bad. I did really want to wall but after the conversations we had I know I'll need a junker before I jump to that. Just doing cargo area right now I would think. The cardboard is an awesome idea (my dad is a distributor for motorcycle parts and accessories so we have boxes up the @$$) Thanks to everyone for the replies. This has been bugging me for a long time.
3 12s or 2 15s would work fine in your cargo area on 5K, you'd definitely be getting loud enough to start breaking stuff but not actually destroy the vehicle. Down the road when you get a dedicated vehicle to destroy, buy another amp and more of whatever subs you chose and go from there. I should have some pictures of boxes that worked well in mine if you're interested.

I could also get 2 18s in my cargo area fine. Just would have to be creative on batteries and amps which is fine. Do 3 12s or 2 15s stand a chance of breaking 150? I would be overly happy with a 153

The catch with 18's is that you won't be able to double up and use 4 if you do decide to wall that Jeep down the road and really you don't have enough volume to do them properly. After fitting amp(s) and batteries you'll only have 9-10 cube net for box volume keeping it below the window line. You can go up some if you're not worried about below the window line competition class but I've found making the box more than a couple inches higher than that actually hurts you. Anyway, with the space you have you won't gain from using 18s.

Should be at or around 150 and be musical with that cone area and power. You won't see 153 and be able to play music without doubling cone area and/or power.

Put this one together the day before the show, added some PVC and duct tape to modify tuning at the show. This box did NOT play music but I'd be confident something like this could get you 153 with enough work.... assuming your Jeep peaks at 54-56hz where my old one did, my current one peaks at 43-45 and would be a bit harder to do with a single 15 I think.

This box here was about 9.5 cube net and was still above the window line and that was me using the tiny Stetsom amp (conserving space).

Sounded amazing but wouldn't fit after I bought a bigger amp and I was never able to replicate it's sound with different designs.

Lots of duck tape!

Nah just crammed them all in a wall. Photo bucket won't work for me so video it is..

well, now i know why you didnt go with 9 12"s, you had to shoehorn those 8 in there and allow space for a port!! Whats with the no headrests in the big builds btw? Ive noticed a trend with the bigger spl cars not having them in there.

When I finally get the time to weld up the steel cage, I'll be running 4 of those 15's in a big flat ported wall. I expect better results. They'll be on each 7k@.7 nominal. Even with rise, I should still have some headroom daily and metering.

FINALLY finished moving stuff to my new house this weekend. Half the furniture is still in the garage though, and needs to be moved into the house.

I've been without internet since August first and have been working 40+ hours every week.

Have been talking to a couple girls too, which always adds complexity to my life //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Yeah, moving is a drag.... work and crazy women are no picnic either

You've got to be going back to school soon too, right? Is this build even getting done this year?

I go back on the 21st, so next week. I don't think it will get done this year.

I'll be working 8 to noon when school starts and I'll have class from 1 to 5. Then there's homework //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

If he leaves the girls alone!!
Not going to happen! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

If he can just avoid the crazy disease infested ones.... He is a slow learner though so I'll predict he has a long row to hoe there.
Rubbers have saved me a lifetime of regret.
I've got two possibilities right now. There's an 18 year old freshmen I've been talking to, but she currently lives with her 22 year old boyfriend //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Also, a couple weeks ago three 16 year olds stopped me while I was driving and got my number. They were on the college campus, so I didn't think they were 16. At this time, there are tons of 18 year old freshmen walking around. They said the legal age of consent in Iowa is 16. I thought that it was bullshit, but sure enough they were right! I looked it up, and 16 is the legal age of consent here. Also, the law says a 14 or 15 year old can consent to anyone 5 years or less older than them. It's fucked up, but I could legally have consensual sex with a 14 year old //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

Anyways, one of them really wants my dick, but I still feel weird because she's 16...... so I don't think I'll do it.

They need to re-write the laws. I'm guessing they're still in place from a long time ago when 14 year olds would marry 30 year old guys (1900's?)

What's gonna be louder will determine a few factors: Install, power, electrical, and either wall or enclosure. 2 10's can out-hit 4 15's....it's been done and people were amazed. Why? Because testing and enclosure with tons of power whereas the 4 15's may have had weak install overall.
I had 4 10's before the 2 15's I have now. Was gonna go 8 10's but that would require more space, new build etc. The subs themselves were obsolete.
Yeah, we aren't talking about what could happen. He is saying in a perfect vacuum, which set up would be louder. That means if all other variables were equal.

It's kind of like how everyone here insists on modeling a box on winsid before building. Is it a bad practice? Not at all... Does it really tell you anything about your install once it's in the real world? Hardly.

My last walls with 2 21s and 2 18s had a big top port and the head rest blocked the port.
