thining about getting a dirt bike (motor cycle)

lol... basically told me the 2% which means bout nothing, then said u take meeee on
Just telling you alittle bit about my bike since you wanted to compare yours to mine. Im sure I would walk all over your 300 in anything wide open. But in the tight twisties it could be a different story. Idk though if your still riding a ttr125:veryhapp:. You might be better off taking on my little brother.

To the OP I suggest you get a bike that you are comfortable riding first. I suggest a fourstroke trail bike such as a ttr225/250. They are great bikes that are very reliable and have a user freindly powerband. Then after you get good at riding then you can upgrade to something bigger/faster. It will be hard to start off riding in the sand so I suggest you do some trail riding before you even attempt it. This will give you some time to hone your skills and get more confident on your bike.

i think he needs a bigger bike. you said get one he is comfortable with. a ttr is waaay too small. he would not be comfortable with his knees hitting the handle bars. if he was going to go with a 250 four stroke, i would say a WR.

thanks bro, it is my life. after i graduate high school this year im goin to MMI to pursue my love for it. been around them my whole life, racing and trail riding
Great.

But I was talking about this guy.....

Generally thats true, but not all bikes are like that. Motocross 250 four strokes, come on quick, hit hard, and rev forever, they actually rev quite a bit higher than the 2 strokes.
If this is your first time owning a dirtbike I would recommend something like a WR450, XR400, or a crf450x, but that all depends on your budget. Those bikes all have really wide powerbands that makes them easy and fun to ride.
Unless you are one and the same?

But he is also a beginner. The ttr has a crazy smooth power band. I am thinking of bikes that are easy to learn on. Honestly he is going to be big on any bike. The WR might be a better option. It has better suspension and more power. It is deffinately better suited for the dessert. But it might be too much for him at first.

ya, but it still has alot smoother band then a yzf, which it the race bike

lol i dont have a ttr 125 was a friends brothers, he decided he didnt wana try to ride so i was like shit ok free bike to learn with lol

yea ud walk all over me in wide open, im sure u have differ gears than me..

i have short gears for racing basically, im sure i can only max out 75 or somthin(never checked), where as the wider ratio can go 100+(even thou why the **** is that necessary?)

but seriously whats the need togo that fast unless ur desert racing and even then ur alway in the powerband which aint the best maxxin it out...

and who has the dam money to burn tires lol...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif not meeeeeeee!!

I'm actually gonna go with this. A ttr-230 or the crf-230 are great starter bikes that are a lil lower than motocross bikes. Maybe for a big guy like you an older XR400. Those XRs are freaking tanks and require very little maintenance.

HOWEVER, if you have ever ridden dirt bikes, maybe a crfx or wr are better suited since you can outgrow a ttr or xr quickly. I wouldn't jump into a 125 2-stroke if i were you because the powerband can kick ur *** really easy, same as with a 250 2-stroke.

To the whole 2-stroke vs. 4-stroke speed thing, didn't you know that they have allowed 250 2-strokes compete against 250 4-strokes in the amateur level? They pull around the same times in the tracks. The difference is the 4-stroke needs a steady rate, as with the 2-stroke you can just whip it around quicker.

ok ok WHO CARES PEOPLE GET A 4 STROKE!!!!!!!!

im garunteed hes no going to want to keep up on his jetting, and reeds, and all the fine tuning u constantly need with 2 strokes....

get a 4 stroke 250+ and you shall be happy

first determine where you going to ride. and what kind of riding. most bikes new bikes today are red sticker, which means you cant ride them in certain spots in the summer, because of emissions. and are you just going to ride desert? puttin around? no jumping? a two stroke is not much lighter than a four stroke of today. four strokes dominate today. on the pro circuit, not one two stroke exists. i would say get a four stroke, they have alot more bottom end, and have alot more of a smooth powerband. thats why they dominate today, you can just roll the throttle on and not have to worry about sliding out. what is your price range? if you are getting a new or used bike, two strokes are always cheaper. and if you have money in the bank, suzuki and kawasaki both have EFI (electronic fuel injection) on theyre 450's. thats about 7500- 8000 bucks though. so first say what kind of riding you are doing then i can further help you
He doesn't have to worry about the red sticker if he lives anywhere outside California. And if he did live in CA, anything 2002 or below is green sticker. Newer bikes have to be "trail" bikes to be green stickered such as the WRs, CRF Xs... etc... The only brand that comes green stickered and is race ready is KTM. Stupid laws >=(

KDX 200/220 is also a great choice as well. They are two stroke trail/enduro bikes with a smooth powerband and power everywhere. They can also be had for cheap and they are very reliable. Many people swear they are the best all around bikes ever made. I had one in my garage over the summer and it was a fun bike to ride.
