thining about getting a dirt bike (motor cycle)

def with ur size get a 225 or higher. I'm on a 250 and I'm 5'10" 160
if your new i suggest a 4 stroke (they're easier to ride than 2 strokes)

2 strokes are usually faster but 4 strokes are easier to climb steep hills.

i would have to say you might be the stupidest here on the forum talking bout dirtbikes...

first determine where you going to ride. and what kind of riding. most bikes new bikes today are red sticker, which means you cant ride them in certain spots in the summer, because of emissions. and are you just going to ride desert? puttin around? no jumping? a two stroke is not much lighter than a four stroke of today. four strokes dominate today. on the pro circuit, not one two stroke exists. i would say get a four stroke, they have alot more bottom end, and have alot more of a smooth powerband. thats why they dominate today, you can just roll the throttle on and not have to worry about sliding out. what is your price range? if you are getting a new or used bike, two strokes are always cheaper. and if you have money in the bank, suzuki and kawasaki both have EFI (electronic fuel injection) on theyre 450's. thats about 7500- 8000 bucks though. so first say what kind of riding you are doing then i can further help you

^^ knows what ya talkin bout!! ( on the 2 stroke sliding out.. u ever hear of throttle cams and powervalves?)(silding isnt a problem if u know how to work the bike)(also depends on the gearbox of the bike)

riding in he desert beating around get a 4 stroke 450, hands down just go with any model 98+ 4 stroke and you will be fine... tune it right and just beat it around

id say 2 stroke if u wana get more into it to have fun, and lean the bike

People are retarted. Just because hes big doesnt mean he should go out and get the biggest bike made. You probably cant handle a 250, let alone a 125. Start small. If your getting a 2 stroke get a 125.
Yea but a big guy on a 125 in the sand is gonna be no fun. Hes gonna have to rev the piss out of the bike which can be intimidating for a begginer.

if you are getting a bit more serious and will be riding with buddies and u want to learn to ride and do bout everything from a bit of trail riding to the track get a 2 stroke 250+ and you will be fine..

Two strokes own everything FYI. I will never own a four stroke IMO.

Be a real man and get a KX 500. If you look back a couple of years those were the bikes to have for the sand. Thats what I plan on getting when I get bored of my 250.

what a 98 or somthing? haha ill get the ktm 580 and pwn ur face

right now i have a ktm 300 and it pwns kx250's and all the 4 stroke 450's

and it also comes down to rider ability too... 2 % gear 98% rider, kinda how i see it

125 i wayy the f too small... i got on the ttr 125 i learned on and i was like wtf am i in 3rd or 1st i couldnt feel gears i couldnt feel power, i couldnt feel the instant tire spinning power u have at ur fngers..

riding buddies 450f i felt NO power.. idk how ppl say theres power in 4 strokes.. felt so dam weak

even if he isnt jumping he is way too big for any non mx 4 strokes suspension, with a few exceptions.

And 250's are much more reliable than 250f's and 450's

Haha yea its a 99. But its worked. I ported the motor to eric gore specs and it has hygear suspension front and back and a whole list of other odds and ends. Ill take you on any day. I smoke 450fs and banshees left and right. In the open trails or on the track its owns. In tight trails it can be a handful. But like you said in the end it all comes down to rider skill.

Yea motocross fourstrokes are ticking timebombs. I would never buy one used. Actually I would never buy one period.

they have the same suspension on them. and yes, motocross four strokes are alot more costly when it come to maintainence. valves are killers. but a off-road four stroke is probably the most reliable bike. they are like tanks, but you sacrafice weight with them, also because they have electric start

x2

I used to race MX when I was younger had a CR125 was an awsome bike on a track but I hated it when my buddy's and I went trail riding. The bike wanted to be riden hard and wide open which isn't poaaible on many of the trails around here

lol... basically told me the 2% which means bout nothing, then said u take meeee on

depends on the riders abilities, how fast u learn type of riding, etc

i go my bike in july lol, been riding the 125ttr since may

that is my riding history im sure ud smoke me on a track, i havnt done many track days, mostly with friends in the sand, and climbing hills is what i do

id take a 2 stroke over any 4 stroke to climb hills.. its just much better even with the tires spinning.. same with mud, snow or tight technical trails, 2 stroke > stroke..

but for a tank of a bike, commuting, gas wise, electric start, and the reliability of not fine tuned 4 strokes is very nice to have...

very reliable in all temperatures and conditions, no jetting to bother with.. lol

Depending on how serious you are you may want to get the shocks revalved for your weight because they are usually valved for lighter people. Also depending on the adjustments you could just try to up the spring preload and add some heavier fork oil and/or put more air in the forks, just don't blow a sel with to much lol!

I'd trust a guy that has Moto____ as his ca.com screen name.

That means motocross is his favorite hobby. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

right now i would be worried about an engine that will haul you around. you can get suspension work done on any bike. there are pit bikes (110cc) that adults race. so i would worry about getting some power between your legs

thanks bro, it is my life. after i graduate high school this year im goin to MMI to pursue my love for it. been around them my whole life, racing and trail riding

get a wr450, won't regret it, like moto said the hipo 4 strokes have insane torque and big top end. road a YZ250F for a long time, i was about 170lbs though, and it was the race model no lights no nothing, wr450 is a great trail bike doubles as mean motorcross bike with tons of power
