im 6'4" and 260 lbs and im interested in getting a motorcycle, pretty much strictly for the desert. ive talked to my friend about it and he said to get a 125 or somethign like that.

my main concern is, im a big *** guy, will that big of a bike be big enough for me?

anyone got any advice? he told me to stick with a 4 stroke, even though he seems to prefer a 2 stroke. ill take whatever, as long as its cheap, i just dont know what to look for.

def with ur size get a 225 or higher. I'm on a 250 and I'm 5'10" 160

if your new i suggest a 4 stroke (they're easier to ride than 2 strokes)

2 strokes are usually faster but 4 strokes are easier to climb steep hills.

get a 250 because thats how big of a bike you need.

I am 6'1'' 220 and i rode a 125 for a long time, its not too bad but the bike didn't like me when i wanted to do hill climbs...got on my buds 250 and it was no sweat.

you can go 2 stroke or 4, but if you go 4 stroke, you are gonna need like a 450 or higher.

2 stroke is gonna be loud and raspy. 4 stroke is a deeper rumble, more designed for low end torque, better for cross country rides and hill climbs.

second, yea, im not the typical guy that i think of being on a motorcycle. itll probably look for like a circus act more than anything.

thanks for your opinion

ahh, ok. i didnt know it was like.

all i really know is 2 strokes are meant for high reving and have a smaller powerband but it comes on quick. and 4 strokes are like car engines...which im used to working on and understand.

Generally thats true, but not all bikes are like that. Motocross 250 four strokes, come on quick, hit hard, and rev forever, they actually rev quite a bit higher than the 2 strokes.

If this is your first time owning a dirtbike I would recommend something like a WR450, XR400, or a crf450x, but that all depends on your budget. Those bikes all have really wide powerbands that makes them easy and fun to ride.

Depends if you are riding somewhere that requires a permit or not as well. Either way, Id go 4 stroke for 2 reasons..

1. No need to mix gas with oil

2. Most 4 strokes come with spark arrestors already installed on the mufflers

That said, I think getting a 125 would be a mistake, you are a tad on the big size, and may drag the bike down. Its been a loooooong time since I rode a dirt bike, but I always liked the predictable power of a 4 stroke rather than the peaky powerband of a 2 stroke.

I have a kx 250 which is a two stroke motocross bike and it would be perfect for the desert but is not a begginer freindly bike at all.

The sand robs alot of power so you need a pretty big bike to have any kind of fun. I suggest a 250cc+ two stroke or a 400cc+ four stroke.

If you just want to trail ride then I suggest a four stroke bike that fits you well. Prolly something like a ttr225 or something. The are very begginer freindly and very reliable.

Any motocross style bike is going to require alot more maintenance and upkeep. Especially two strokes(top ends, bearings, etc.). So a trail bike would probably be better for you.

People are retarted. Just because hes big doesnt mean he should go out and get the biggest bike made. You probably cant handle a 250, let alone a 125. Start small. If your getting a 2 stroke get a 125.

first determine where you going to ride. and what kind of riding. most bikes new bikes today are red sticker, which means you cant ride them in certain spots in the summer, because of emissions. and are you just going to ride desert? puttin around? no jumping? a two stroke is not much lighter than a four stroke of today. four strokes dominate today. on the pro circuit, not one two stroke exists. i would say get a four stroke, they have alot more bottom end, and have alot more of a smooth powerband. thats why they dominate today, you can just roll the throttle on and not have to worry about sliding out. what is your price range? if you are getting a new or used bike, two strokes are always cheaper. and if you have money in the bank, suzuki and kawasaki both have EFI (electronic fuel injection) on theyre 450's. thats about 7500- 8000 bucks though. so first say what kind of riding you are doing then i can further help you
