Hi all, first post. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wave.gif.002382ce7d7c19757ab945cc69819de1.gif

I'm looking at buying a new Chevrolet HHR and I want to build my first real system. I know I want to run a Pioneer AVIC-Z2 with the XM NavTraffic, Sirius, Bluetooth and iPod adapter through an Audio Control EQS and Epicenter. My dilemma lies in the amps and speakers. There are so many great pieces of equipment these days from then entry level up to the insane and I'm looking for something in the middle for quality first, quantity second. I also want to stick with one brand per component as much as possible.

I put together a preliminary list of amplifiers and speakers for those of you who live car audio to review. I'd like to get some opinions on the components themselves within their class, as well as the combination of components.

Front Stage:

Amplifier - Audison LRx 2.250

Speakers - Hertz HSK 165

Rear Fill:

Amplifier - Audison LRx 2.150

Speakers - Hertz HCX 165

Subwoofer:

Amplifier - Audison LRx 2.500

Speaker - Hertz HX 380 D

If there are any dealers reading this I'd like to get a quote on each component if it's not too much trouble.

For the most part amps are the same as far as sound. What makes the price difference is usually company (marketing, quality, etc).

FWIW, most SQ systems don't really comprise of rear fill at all.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm wanting the rear fill for when I have rear seat passengers, other times it will be faded out. However, if I scratched the rear fill it would save a chunk of change.

When doing an sq based setup I usually add rear fill but keep sound faded more toward the front. I belive that gives a better sound than no rear fill.

Those of you that don't use, shun or bad mouth rear fill have probably never ever competed in a sanctioned Sound Quality competition event so what is your point?

It's all about SPL these days so are you really telling me you are concerned about a coherent front sound stage? Done correctly the rears can provide a level of ambience that will actually work in conjunction with the front stage.

I ran my '94 Camaro in the IASCA days ('95 - '97) with rear fill and did very well in competitions. It was defeatable and controllable via ceramic L-Pads custom mounted inside the center console and could be adjusted to your liking.

The bottom line here is do whatever sounds best to you and take others opinion's with a grain of salt.

i have and when i did compete it was in its hay day when there were more real show quality cars per class (back then we had alot more classes) than they seem to get in whole shows now. in your own post you make it easy to adjust and or defeat lol if you did comptete then you already know what it does to your sound stage. i agree about using your own judgement but not many people know what a good sound stage is. only car i recall that used rearfill that i liked was mike mineo's camaro and that was far from conventional
