The Official Type R Thread

Imo you should do some 15s, or 18s instead of so many 12s. 4 15s maybe?
x2, do 4 15"s.
When you start adding a bunch of subs, you start running into issues like cancellation, standing waves, etc.

Keep it simple and it will probably be louder. 4 amps, 4 15"s.

Also, I hope you have one hell of an electrical.

Alright guys, if you think i should do 4-15's recomend some- price range is 1200 tops SHIPPED, no used equipment- i was going to do 4 18" re sx's in a wall, but my tahoe isnt quite wide enuff for that, plus, im tired of re stuff ( i have quite alot of it sitting around) want to try something new.... always open for suggestions, thanks guys.

Well, I orded the Type-X and it has yet to ship, but I threw a RF HX2 in there till I get the new sub, and now that I have the gains properly set, im wondering the following...

AMP: Alpine MRD-M1005

Will the Type X be any louder at higher wattage than a Type R w/ the gains turned down?

I just loved how the Type R sounded before I blew it up, but if I tone it down, will it still get loud?! Louder than a Type X with higher power?

You could feed that Type R just as much as the X, and it will be louder IMO. Make youself a large ported box, and feed it all you got, just SET YOUR GAIN CORRECTLY. I guarentee that your problem before was that your gain was set incorrecting, sending a clipped signal to the sub.

Dude, guaranteed thats what it was //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

When custel gets in this thread, he will back me up on this...

The Alpine amp, it has digital gains... but they jump from point to point, like .1 .2 .3 .4 .5 1.5 2 2.5... etc...

WE KNOW ITS SUPPOSED TO MATCH YOUR DECK OUTPUT

But I dont think this is how thier numbering works, for the simple fact that my output on my deck is 8v, and when I put the amp to 8, it dont even move the sub. When I had it on .3 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif hahaha with the Type R, it beat the living hell out of it... and now I have a temp RF HX2 in there, and it pounds like hell when I have it on 1.5 even, which isnt clipping.

Just wonder what the Type R will sound like at 1.5 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Hows it sound custel? Im looking for more SQ than SPL really, but I still like it to get loud.

The Type R is just amazing sounding, im addicted to that bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif This HX2, is gets loud as heck, but man can you tell how dirty it is, compared to the type r.

type X will sound much better, even in the same box. It won't be nearly as loud though.

THe R will handle your power... just don't clip it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hey guys-
I have about 23.5 cubes available ( without doing a wall), and if at all possable, i dont want a wall. what i want is subs up, port back (crx sytyle, i believe) oh and iagrdshaka, I am from carroll, ia. where is k-town? anyways, im thinking about 2.3 cubes each, tuned to 30-32 hz. Any suggestions otherwise? thanks
Thats the exact same size and freq I had my Type R 12, and it sounded sweet!

2.3cubes @ 30hz.

Ya, I think you may be right, cause id be underpowering the Type X pretty much, unless they've rated thier flagship sub to match the MRD-M1005.... But I just loved the sound even of the Type - R I dont think it could get any better to tell you the truth, and if it can I dont even wanna know about it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Im gettin another Type R.

in a sealed 1.5 each champer. 12 inch subs. what kinda mix SPL vs SQ are these subs. i noticed they were extreamly cheap.
Never tried it, but I hear the Type R does not perform as well in a sealed enclosure as it does in a ported enclosure. Many, Many people are using them in 2.3 or so cuft w/ 30-32hz tuning... I have myself, and it sounds SWEET. Like very SWEET //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

A couple buddies of mine even heard it, and could not beleive it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif One has a Focal 15, and the other a Eclipse Ti... both said it sounded cleaner than thiers, and just as loud.

Im almost willing to bet that most people will tell you, you will be better off using the 3cubes you have and putting 1 Type R Ported in there, instead of the 2 sealed.

I personally beleive it would be louder, and very clean sounding.
