are those considered SQ subs or SPL subs?What power do they need?

They are getting to be known for their SQL. They are rated at 500w RMS, however people have been giving up to 1200w RMS to a single sub. Some people are hitting 140-150+ dB's with a single sub. They are really some beasts for their price...

I have no experience with the 6500's, so I can not compare them... But I did hear the R's in person a couple weeks ago, and I was greatly surprised.

correction, 3.5kw +

tommyk90 has a single 05 typeR 10 in a ported box in his S10, and he has two strapped ED9.1's at .5ohm on it... he said around 3.5kw or more. he hit a 149.x.

they are good sounding subs (yes ive heard one in a sealed box), but if done right ported, they can wang the fuck out.

I assume that he does not give it 3.5kw daily driving right? If so, that sub is a BEAST...

the system i just did with the m1005 on 1 R 12" is ****en banging, it is seriously unbelievable.

I'd give a guesstimate of around 2.5kw or so at the most after imp. rise and everything. Maybe even closer to 2kw.

Almost my whole team (me and mark included) will be going to dB drag finals/MECA ohio state finals.
