Rule of power, double the power equals double the output, or +3 dB. If the Alpine got +1 dB at twice the power, at equal power it would theoretically be -2 dB.

Are you talking about the SX vs TypeR test? The tests used the EXACT same amount of power. The guy even said, with NO changing being made, no tweaking of the gains, no opening doors putting windows down no NOTHING, just SAME thing... Took the SX out, dropped in the TypeR, and instantly gained 2.9 DB... With the SAME power.

Only one test was used with the pair of amps. Yeah, the new Type R sure does shine, doesn't it? I liked the older Type R's though too. They were pretty good for the money. I'm told that the 05 Type S's are equivilent in sound quality and overall output to the older Type R's.

for clarification

the S will meter louder in a moderately high tuned setup, up to about 1000-1200 reactive watts per woofer (that means a "1800-2000" watt amp in most applications).

The S doesn't handle *nearly* as much power as the R musically... musicall in the proper box the R will handle 800 watts indefinitely. The S will only handle about 400-500.

The S *can't* get the low end of the type R, thats just how it works. Attempting to get alot of output of the S at a low note yields nasty SQ and low low power handling (believe me, i tried... ALOT! lol).

the S can have butter smooth SQ... but only in *one* box lol. I've had em in quite a few, and none came close SQ wise to this one in particular. yeah iknow, ALPINE has been getting crazy hype , but its a really good sub, i mean i expected great things from it before it even came out, like was stated that the R was ruly underground before it hit this thread...what u think

yeah your right about that being available, but as far as knowing what it can do is truly a secret , ...or least it was.....hehe //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif yea i agree, people say "Oh yeah the type R is a good sub...FOR THE PRICE, and im like dude, i think its great no matter what, is it the worlds best? i doubt it, but it just so happens to be affordable and sound crazy good! i would choose the R's over a JL W6 easy and the V2's. oh yeah and as for the X. man why spend money on more amps to power that thing. when oyu can have an R for half or more. less power requirements better looking basket....(TYPE R LOGO IS NASTY!!!) but no disrespect to those who have the X, but i just think its a better sub in those areas. also i like the CARBON cone, pretty sick. And if you also remember, they used lower frequency test tones. The SX might peak higher than the Type-R in the higher, more typical "bass fart" range.
