Just curious, why aren't you considering the R's? I mean I almost went with a single RE SX 12 until I saw the test that was done here with the Type R vs the RE SX... Taken directly from the mentioned thread:

SPL: in the kick, drivers door open

SX: 147.0

seXXX: 148.7

type-r: 148.9 (after about 5 other burps/rollups, so my voltage was hurting)

Not only is the type-r louder, it handled the power (strapped nine.1's at .5 ohm a piece) better and just performed better

Driveby: meter 6 feet away from passenger door, 4.5 feet off the ground

SX: no testing (wasn't worth testing because it SUCKED)

seXXX: 122.0

type-r: 123.4

Once again, the type-r prevailed simply because of the fact that it was able to handle both amps for music. With the SX/seXXX i had to use one amp because they could not take the power.

If I send my IA 187s 200 watts, they'll outperform IA LIs getting only 100 watts. Doesn't mean anything. What both tests DID confirm is that the SX and seXXX were more efficient than the Type R, which is more important in a DD.

A pair of SE's is gonna run me roughly $375 shipped and a pair of Type-S's off Ebay is gonna cost me $175. I'm a price/performance ratio sort of guy and I just cant justify the added cost of the SE's. I'm sure the pair of SE's would sound better overall, but $200 is a good amount I could spend to get better components which I think is a smarter investment.

i would take one SE over 2 type S's honestly, and alpine in now way out does RE, lets see compare a type X to a SX, i think the SX would be louder, then compare the XXX to? hmm there type X, then compare the MT to hmm the type X

type E = i guess the same as RE RE i have no idea

type R = SX from what i "hear"

type x

I made it 2.3cuft @ 32Hz... thats what I ended up doing... Im almost dont the majority of the box, except the port and face... the amp rack is on the front of the box, so I have to do that stillas well, router it all out, etc...

This box im painting, so it might take a bit. I mean I want it to be LOUD as hell, but at the same time sound nice...

I wont build another box, so on a scale of 1-10 (10 being best) where would this sized enclosure sit? For overall musical performance with all types of music...

I can tell you right now where I will peak... when I go to turn on the stereo for the first time after installation, custom installation, taking the entire back seat of the Sport Trac, with a high gloss finish box matched to the interior of my vehicle, amp rack, neon... when I turn all that shit on, that's where it peaks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

There would be no peak if I had a box that looks like it was made from wood pulled out of a dumpster, and almost cut to exact dimentions, thrown into my trunk with all the rest of the dirt and garbage... that my friend is an embarassment. Get some class, and you can roll with me!

I dont really care about getting 150db... I just want a nice sounding stereo.. which I beleive I will have.

RED IS type R 1242d in 2.4 cubic feet with 32 hz tune

GREEN is type R 1242d in 3.5 cubic feet with a 34 hz tune

conditions being perfect, that is not a smooth let alone ideal response...
