The Official Type R Thread

1.7 cubes for one sub.........3.4 for 2.......whats not ideal about recc. specs? someone said it wont be LOUD? spkrman runs a business, and promotes it by saying things are not ideal. good plan.......and his boxes DO work. i have nothing against him or anything like that, but his boxes are not just ported boxes. reccommended specs will be PLENTY loud for daily listening. never doubted it on any other setup have u?
You do realize alpines spec of 1.7 cubes is a gross size not net, right.

i agree that they'll wanna breathe more than that. about spkrman, people are correct, he doesn't just have ported boxes. while i haven't seen a crosssection, i have talked to him extensively about his designing and what he does is incredible.

How many watts would youe give a 2005 12" type r in a ported box it will be for my daily driver in a truck and it will probly get cranked up alot so i need something that wont blow it.
do you know what "rms power" means...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif

Are you people ok? Haha, of course its 2.3cuft each.

The plans are drawn, just need to execute //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Starting tomorrow night.

Its exactly 2.3cuft tuned to 32Hz - EACH.

absolutely nothing....
oh i know..my xxx is seeing 1100-1300 watts and its really loud. i cant imagine rms of 1600, which will not really make a difference, let alone 2000+..

my point is why dont you (trevor) just decide based upon rms wattage?? do your homework and im sure you can make an educated decision. you act as if it doesnt have one.

I know it has one but i mean i was askin this becasue some people are runnin like 1500 watts to them but ive figured it out anyway im going with the viper 1200.1 so thank you all for the help.

assuming the 2.4 calculation is including displacement

with a 32hz tuning your peak spl will be at 37.4 hz with a sensitivity increase of 3.13 db at 37.4 hz

you do have other options, im assuming you are tuning it at 32 so it will hit the low notes very well, the cutoff in that small of a box will be aroun 29.9 hz, but tuning so low can definetly take away from the subs output, unless you change the box

here is a way to get around that

right now you have about a 3 db sensitivity gain, and you sub will not like notes below about 28 hz

now to get the most output

lets say you change to a 3.5 cubic foot box, and move the tuning up to 34hz

your type r 12" will now hit just as low as the 2.4 32hz

and rather than having a 3 db gain at 37.4 hz

you will have a 5.4 db gain at 37 hz even

BOOST THE SENSITIVITY

so i just made the box bigger, tuned it up, and since its bigger will still hit the low notes exactly in the way your 32hz tuned box will, but with a little higher tuned

gave you a 2.4db gain over the other box

simplified--- if you increase the box size you can get away with a higher tune, not loose out on db's on your low notes, and at the same time, yield more SPL,

RED IS type R 1242d in 2.4 cubic feet with 32 hz tune

GREEN is type R 1242d in 3.5 cubic feet with a 34 hz tune
