The Official Type R Thread

PM a few guys that have box building ads in there sigs, im not really a ported guy, ONLY because i have a single cab truck, but i think it is in the best intrest to have the sub and port on the same side of the box.
Somebody lied //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It doesnt matter where the woofer is in relation to the port so long as you maintain a good design.

ive been told many times not to go with alpines box specs, ask ppl who have hit 150 with them, they give them like 3ft each i think or more, but im sure at least 2 will be fine. but talk to the R experts!!!
more than 3 cubes???? Who did that and got loud? lol

2-2.5, tune em low... the woof will love you.

at what note were each sub peaking at?

and yes, the type R doesnt work nearly as well sealed... power handling goes way way down in particular. The SX's bit of extra xmax will help it sealed, and something also tells me it was peaking at a higher note.

Lets get the full story //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Looking forward to the ported box testing and more complete results //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

im looking forward to the 2000SPL test //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

just sold my audiobahn 1208t,s now should i go with Alpine Type-R 15" or the Kicker L7 15" I,AM gonna run a Directed 1500D at 2ohms so thats about 800 watts need some help oh ya want to port them at 3 cubic feet

If you are looking for opinions i say go for the L7 i know for a fact that they wang hard but i dont think the type r is even in the same class its overrated to me. The only alpine products i buy are the head units.

at what note were each sub peaking at?
very good question. i don't remember. j/k. the id sub peaked the lowest @47hz, followed by the sx @49hz, and finally the type r @50hz. my 8x re8s peaks @49hz or 50hz depending on the day.

Looking forward to the ported box testing and more complete results //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
i went to the shop today with the intentions of furthering this testing...but got side tracked. i played around with a box that can't fit any of the above metioned subs due to their mouting depths. it was ~2.4cuft(before sub displacements) tuned to 35hz with a measly 24sq inch port. i now know:

8x re8s in sealed box: 146.9@50hz ~1000 watts total

3x jl 10w3s ported: 143.2@47hz ~900 watts total

2x " " " " " : 140.8@47hz ~500 " " " "

1x " " " " " : 138.5@49hz ~200 watts

1x re12 in ported box: 140.0@46hz ~500watts

2x " " " " " : 146.7@49hz ~1000watts

i didn't get to do too much testing with the re12s with that much power because i was smelling frying coils after first burp. this test really can't be taken too seriously because of the large variations in power that each driver was taking...it just seamed like something fun to do at the time:) i will try to borrow a ported box all week long to do some more testing or my initial three subs, but, if i can't borrow one, i'll have to wait until next weekend to build one.
