The Official Type R Thread

Does anyone know somewhere i can buy a Alpine Type-R 1241d for fairly cheap? Or would i just be better off getting the 1242d (which is alot cheaper)? My amp is 600 rms @ 4 ohms, so i dont know if the 1242's would sound very good.

The 1221 is the old model. Its rated at 300 rms. What you would be shooting for is the 2005 versions. Either the 1242d or the 1222d. I would say the 1222d would be your best bet running the amp at 4 ohms. You could get the 1242d and wire your amp down to 2 ohms at 1200 watts. I would watch the gains thought. The Type R's can take more than they are rated, but 1200 might be pushing it for daily drivers setup

ngsm, I'll ignore your comments, because as usual they do nothing but try to fuel the flames. It was a pretty lousy flame tho, put a little more effort into it next time. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Right, it's not a flame...it's a sincere question. Are you dense?

Audioholic, are you DENSE? I mean seriously. You're arguing a moot point, and getting all FLUSTERED b/c Tommy had different REAL WORLD results. Wow, it IS what happened, why are you so dumbfounded??? ...get over it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

No flaming there what-so-ever.

You are reaching mechanical limits on these subs burping near tuning for SPL output? Wow. If that's true, then yes I understand your point, and the explanation is appreciated. The attitude however isn't. Oh well.
From what i remember, we don't reach mechanical limits near tuning because, well, I have no idea what the tuning is!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It reaches mechanical limits where the box PEAKS, and i tried NUMEROUS frequencies to find the loudest one. The SX just wouldn't perform and I don't know why.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tommy, in both your test and Spkrman's testing, wasn't the SX played at a relatively low note? Not debating here...but perhaps the SX likes higher frequencies?

Also...Spkrman, who are you saying had more power?

I think both you and Tommy said that Tommy had more power on tap...Dave had ~3600w nominal...

They are definatly strong this year //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

I would buy from audiosavings. They are an ebay store, and they sell things for really cheap, and they offer a good warranty with everything you buy from them.

Tommy had more power per woof, probably by alot.

We haven't tested A/B with a fart box but yes, the SX DOES fart pretty well, the type R flat out doesnt.

Mechanical limits are almost always the power handling limiter in a lower tuned box. WHich btw... the type R has less rated xmax than the SX by quite a bit, not sure what the sexxx is rated for. The SX DID move farther... but the R does more with it.

Note, they aren't power hungry in the least. That being said.... they handle a sh1tload of power if you have it.

The old model sucks compared to the new one... its a better sealed box woofer, but thats only becuase the new one completely sucks sealed. But don't tell best buy that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well, I talk to this guy a lot who owns a car audio/performance shop that sells and installs basically anything for cars. I was going to get an Alpine type R 12" but he said not to because there has been so many problems with their coils with people bringing them back to him. He said he doesn't even carry Alpine stuff anymore because its just for the brand name and they are the most overrated brand in car audio. Reading the reviews of the newer type rs on here, I haven't really seen any bad reviews. Now, I'm leaning towards a 12" RE SX because this guy is brainwashing me. Ever heard of those problems with the type r? Surprisingly, he does know a lot about audio, whether you agree or not. Help me out here and prove him wrong/right. Thanks!
