I know a lil about boxes... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i would have to agree 2-3 or more db from "just the box" when comparing special boxes means alot. some may snicker at the price but in reality its cheaper going this route than spending 200 to 300 more on a bigger amp.

bigger amp....more woofers....yeah, lower class in meca, and dbdrag...its a world of a difference, especially if your using a single 12" with 2000 watts and your in as1, taking first with a 149+ burping on a single 60 amp fuse, you can most likely win your class a few other classes cause people struggle to break 145's at comps that arent serious about it, so take your class, other classes, fat 12", a couple other divisions and also if in meca most of the time if theres more then 4 competitors in your class theres a cash prize so trust me....one single box gets you alot more then ya think... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

exactly!

Lets not mention thats 3db at a *full octave* lower frequency! 10hz! But it still has plenty of response into the low 50hz, and plenty down into the low 30's =).

Lets also mention cone excursion was cut down drastically (by design). The woofers in the old box would hit near xmax at full power, now they barely move and are louder at a lower note!?!? This greatly increases power handling... so if you WANT that bigger amp, the woofs will take it like nothing and get louder... and louder... and louder //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif By design, its dam near impossible to hit xmax in one of my boxes, unless you really try... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

The type R's are just very responsive to this type of box, and the sound quality is *definitely* there... being within 2db from 33 all the way to 50hz is nothing to sneeze at!

I'd like to also note... the box design previous to this one WAS better than those cheapy prefab ported boxes you find on ebay... the comparison between those boxes and mine, there just isn't one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

this is why my "sound quality" boxes can compete - particuarly in MECA.

They are just THAT effeciant... and they still handle power?? Common sense says you can't have both, but this isn't a common box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

marks going to build my box for me to //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i got a s/q box designed and he told me that just this one time he will build it for me for the simple cost of parts and an extra aero port i was like wow!!!

I know its quite popular now a days to discuss how much the enclosure and install affect final speaker performance, but to say the box determines everything is simply false. The box does not move any air, the box does not need to stay linear to affect SQ performance, the box does not need to worry about fatigue and/or distortion caused by overheating, etc etc.
all the woofer need to do is effeciantly handle the power, as far as spl.

SQ can be dictated by the box as far as freq response... but transient response, distortion... all that... some woofs just *can't* sound good!

lmao, he lied

i hope its well worth it : ) i mean...........i only payed 239.40 for the pair LOL
if u get a good box, good amps, man...happy wont be the word..... its FRIDAY i still aint got no freakin job, and still aint got $.... to do! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I am getting ready to build a box for a SWR-1042D and I noticed on crutchfield's site they say 1.0 cu feet (they say claim to have updated information from alpine) where as the manual that comes with the sub says .65 cu fu. Anyone know why there is a discrepancy? What is the best possible (sealed) volume for this sub?

I am primarily interested in SQ and I plan to push 350 watts RMS through this sub (via MRP-M350).

I noticed that my old sub (Infinity Reference 10) actually hits harder than the type R, is this because the Infinity was getting the recommended RMS where as the R is being underpowered? Perhaps the type R will be louder as it breaks in?

Anyhow, thanks for the help.

english please.....

i have my amp so thats done, the box will be coming soon.

since you want SQ go small like it says .65 but also if you want SQ, go ported, they can be SQ boxes as well, if tuned correctly...i'd say tune 28-32Hz and youll love it. but box size will need to increase say 1.5- 2.0 for a tight SQL setup. but if not stick with the sealed if you want that . also feed it , dont underpower it!
