The Official Type R Thread

so would the 32-37 hz range give you sql or is that no-man's land. I don't know too much about designing boxes, just curious.
to the typical ear, that would be a good range , me personally i like the 30-32 range. i after more SQ than SPL. its your decision

if you dont know what im talking about dont reply to my statement.
what are you talking about you said X's have good SQ but R's get louder and that you were thinkin bout putting some in your as2 right?.....what are YOUUU talking about:uhoh:

Well since I'm a noob obviously do you think I'd be better off going with a directed audio 1500 or 1100? If I go that route would I lose much power with the 4 ohm voice coil version?

So with all this talk about the Alpine Type R, I decided to get one, a 12”. I purchased it online off of eBay for 105 dollars shipped, unopened, brand new in the box. Not a bad deal at all.

I currently have a claw basket stereo integrity magnum 12” sub in a 1.2 cubic foot sealed enclosure in a 2002 ford f-150 supercrew. The magnum is powered by a Memphis mc1000d, 1100 watts @ 1ohm.

All I did was remove the magnum and drop the type r in. That’s it. I didn’t change any of the amp settings.

I played a test tone on the type r at low a low volume to “break it in” for about 5 minutes. I know that is a debatable subject.

Anyway I knew the amp settings were set perfectly for the magnum (unclipped signal) so I turned up the volume slowly with the type r and at my normal listening volume the signal to the type r was unclipped, no distortion.

Now to my review, the type r sounds every bit as good as the magnum. I was very surprised; I would even say on certain songs it hit certain notes a little lower than the magnum. Now I mostly listen to rock, i.e. mudvayne, static x, disturbed stuff like that. I also played a little rap and bass songs for the type r and I must say I am impressed with this sub in this application.

Now I haven’t heard the type r in a ported enclosure, but I have heard my magnum in a ported enclosure that I built that was 2 cubes net tuned to 29 Hz and it was down right amazing. I’m thinking that the type r will do great in a similar enclosure.

I would take the Mags over the Type R's, but if you want to get rid of the claw, I just might happen to know someone that would be interested //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Oh no, I will never get rid of the claw. The Magnum is one hell of a sub and I would also choose it over the apline. I was just curious about the type r and had a hundred bucks to spend. I would however recommend the apline to people seeking a good quality sub at a very affordable price.

It's probably one of the best for that price range...

and apparently you feel the same way about unique subs that I do - you'll never part with your Mag much like I'll never part with my '12a //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Exactly the same.
