The Official Type R Thread

subwoofer box question....

im a newb so bare with me. i want to put 2x 10" type r 4ohm in the back of my passat station wagon. im wondering if these need to be in a ported or sealed box. where on the net to get a box fairly good or what to look for at the local shop. i listen to reggae funk/jazz and some hip-hop. dont have a amp yet although i do have a pioneer hu 8600 and 4x refernce 6012i 6.5's.

i want it to be warm, smooth and consistent and equal sounding with the 6.5's. not just mad bass

i want these to take up minimal space as i throw my gear in the back as well. also an amp recomendation for $250 or under shipped

those will sound very good in a .75 .8 cu ft sealed box per sub. good output and sound quality.

if you want to further tune the box go ported as long as is designed for what youre looking for and youre not just buying some prefab box.

do you have any enclosure construction skills?

I think its time to bolt in my daul 4 ohm and see what 900w will do to my 04 Rtype 12".

Single 4ohm handles 500w nicely.

Hope it doesn't require break in period.

Well it made my 14 year old boy all smiles for the first time since we started this project.

I'm not sure I need it any louder than this.

I wonder how long the one woofer will last running this hard?

Amp is good for Continuous Bridged Power:500w x 1 @ 4 ohms 900w x 1 @ 2 ohms

Maximum Bridged Power: 1000w x 1 @ 4 ohms 1800w x 1 @ 2 ohms

I'm only running a stock alt at 13.4v at the amps.

Hey guys I am new to this sight but not new to car audio. I am thinking about runnin 4 12 inch type r's in a ported box in my Burban off of an Orion 2500d. I have 200 amp alternator because my friend parted out his system for his truck and i got it for cheap from him. My main question is will the 2500 d be to much for the type R's to handle at 1 0hm??? I hear they have some sick power handling abilities but I want to be sure.

i know the rms i mean what would you say is safe to run to them for me. Because this is my first system so im not familiar with gains and volumes so i need to know what would be good for me to run to them that i wont blow them.

you could run 2 at 1 ohm

4 will handle full tilt all day and never even smell.

Looks like I called this one correctly and OP hasn't been back to post any glowing reviews either.
