The Official Type R Thread

well i have a single 10" type R in a .7cuft sealed enclosure, in a 2 seater. in side the car the bass is very loud, very clean and hard hitting, no mechanical noise coming from the sub it self at loud volume.

the door windows on some songs, they flex a little. and on some songs it makes my spoiler rattle and the engine lid "trunk" as well. again this is a two seater with the sub in between the seats, and the car is mid engine. the amp is a JL 500/1, gain set just right and the bass volume like 3/4 on the HU,

if you get 2 12" type r with the right amp and the right box, you re going to love these subs.

i have heard the L5 at circuit city and was not impressed.

don't know how they will sound in a different box. I'm sure it will be better.

any sub can be made into a great, or even decent SPL woofer...installation plays a key. Check how much room you have, what each manufacture reccomends for a ported enclosure, and go with that....both can get loud....

indeed but answer me this. he wouldn't be making this thread if he knew how to get the type r into a 150 db woofer, would he?

You said it wasn't an SPL sub. I said it has put up some respectable numbers. Your comments had absolutely nothing to do with the knowledge level of the original poster; and neither did mine.

did alpine make it intentionally as an spl based driver //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifi think not
You are a fucking idiot. A driver doesn't have to be labeled by the manfacturer as an "SPL sub" to do good in the lanes. Doing good in the lanes is what makes a driver a "SPL sub".

Judging from the 150.0db I watched a pair of Type R 12's put up dbdrag style on the new TL in a non-optimized setup/tuning (things could have been done to improve the score)......I'd say they are fairly capable in the lanes. And that was in a box that still sounded decent for music.

Loudest subs ever? No. But, with a good box design they are very capable.

Sure, the sub is a forum boner. But, seems to me the main people bashing the sub either haven't used it, or just don't know how to properly use it. And honestly, if I hadn't heard it for myself, I'd be right there bashing it with ya. But, what can I say......they so indeed get very loud (especially for just a daily setup), and don't sound entirely like poop doing it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

For the average street beater like this guy, they are definitely a viable option.
What, the type R actually makes bass? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

They are indeed *very* capable woofers if you know what your doing, as I test more and more they seem to be quite frankly, THE most capable low tuned SPL woofers.

indeed but answer me this. he wouldn't be making this thread if he knew how to get the type r into a 150 db woofer, would he? if ur asking a kicker l5 or alpine type r which is better for spl in the first place, chances are you don't have the experience to get it up that high. i still say l5 as i've never heard a decent new type r install, but have heard a pair of 10'' 148~ db l5s

and who says the guy can't buy a box capable of those numbers? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

i invite you into my car... it will definitely change your mind about type R's, or bass period for that matter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

i'll say this...like i mentioned earlier, and then tracy made mention too, it's going to be install dependent.

the L5's would probably be the easiest way to get good street bass due to increased cone area and the fact that they seem to like just about any ported box.

the type r's, at least in mark's hands, can indeed do the same thing. box is a little more of an issue, but mark has it pretty nailed down. (see the references to enclosures here?) so getting the proper enclosure for these wouldn't be an issue.

the original poster can get a good price on either, but isn't sure which way to go. wants mostly spl, little regards to sounding good.

so, going by the posts he has made, i'd lean towards the L5's simply because they'll be more install forgiving. if he wants to use a bit more effort to make things sound good and get loud, the r's could be the best decision.

- Is there a big difference SQ and SPL between the Type-S and the new Type-R?

Which would you say is a big difference? SQ or SPL

Is there also a big difference between the Type-R and the Type-X?

Which would you say is a big difference? SQ or SPL
