The most stupid thing you have done during an Install?

I feel stupid for posting this, but it scared tha shit outta me when it happened. While hooking my SAZ1500D up, I mistakenly put the POS in the GRND input and I put the GRND into the POS. I immediately blew the fuses in the amp, and it sparked soooo loud, I thought that I blew the amp. I was like "OH SHIT," when I realized what I had done. The input screw was barely in and it popped somewhere which I have yet to find. I was almost ready to say "F" car audio again, and just leave the amp alone. THANK GOD FOR FUSES. I quickly checked the fuses and sure enough I had blown all four. Luckily I have an extra pack of 40's in the tool box. I replaced the fuses and the amp works fine. Talk about being scared shitless. Looking back on it now, I just have to laugh at myself, for not paying better attention. I know I am gonna get flamed for this, but oh well.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

ive done exactly than with a xenon 600, just stood there motionless while the fuse started glowing like the sun and then popped,

new fuse= amp good

thank god for fuses.

i was installing a new set of orion 12's in an explorer for a buddy. bought a new 500.2 xtr amp to push them and was proceeding to hook the subs up. well i made the mistake of not double checking the tightness of the terminals on the box. the vibrations had inadvertently pushed the speaker leads out and they touched, frying the amp. that was a $300.00 lesson. needless to say, all of my connections are double and triple checked now. i even started using a small touch of silicone sealant on my screw terminals to prevent this again, the silicone comes right off in one piece when i'm ready to remove it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

one time i was so excited to get all my stuff installed that i couldnt wait. so i mounted my subs in the box and then mounted the amps in and instead of running all the wires, i hooked up my power wire to the battery and ran it over the hood and over the roof into the trunk, and then hooked it to the amp, then a short wire from amp + to the remote. then i ran the rca's over all the seats into the trunk, and then held the ground on a stock ground location, and then turned everything on. im sure there are more stupid things i have done, but i cant think of any right now.

one time, i put the POS wire in the NEG terminal and put the NEG wire in the POS terminal. and nothing happened. because the power wire was Not live

im not a dumbshit. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

You don't have to be a dumbshit to make a mistake.

yea ouch!! Thank got it had not totally set,,, but was close.. It was a hot day and i was using a lot of activator to get it to cure faster between coats.. had done the outside of the box and while waiting for it to set up,, straddled it to coat the inside. About 5 or 7 minutes later when i was done,,, realized inside of thigh was glued to box.. And i was wearing shorts.. So found myself in a very ackward situation. Neighbor came by and after a bit of tugging, pouring mineral spirits, paint thinner and gasoline down the leg,, it came loose,, but red,, hair gone,, a bit of skin as well. Not to mention my pride!! Now,,, if the shorts were a bit shorter, and something happened to fall out.......... well... that would have been another story all together.. Boxes ended up great in the end.. See my avatar!!!

I was doing the Big3 upgrade on my car. I thought I was going from the alt + to the battery + but it turns out I was going from the alt - to battery +.... needless to say, there were some very large, very pretty blue sparks coming from the battery. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

doing my friends install the other day and we wanted to have the speaker grills on the rear speakers which are mounted in the trunk. well we proceeded to remove the carpeting and get the speaker installed first but we couldn't get it off without removing the panels and decided we were 2 lazy so me n my buddy doing the install started cutting an obviously undersized circle for the grills/speakers where they go and then my buddy says let me help and just rips the material with his hands.. well now we had a stop sign looking like hole 2 times 2 large but we ended up fixing it with a razor and good eye now it looks sweet. I now understand why shops make you wait outside during installs.
