The $150 SPL Challenge

In my reference to prefab, I meant generically built boxes. For example "I bought this 10" sub and Im gonna build a 1.5cube @ 40hz box for it". When they have no idea or understanding about the sub they picked, its best application, or a proper enclosure. May as well be a prefab to me, theres no educated design process there.. and thats what I see already being done here.

But as rabbit said, hopefully the more knowledgeable should come out on top.

Well. Pretty sure I can put a competitive bump in others with a single 8. Model wise, a ported burp box for the 8 would peak around 125db, but one of my enclosures - 135.. maybe more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Maybe ill model up a few single 10 or 12 setups and see what I can do within my allotted space. But I still dont think its fair if I only have ~3 cubes to work with and someone else has like 10. If you do the classes, do them well. Otherwise I think spending and box volume limit would be good. Not all of us have a ton of space for lots of woofers.

Edit - nevermind. Wont be competing if its back to people just throwing as many woofers on as much power as they can for the price. Kindof ***** the fun and puzzle out of it for me.

Goodluck to all who participate.

I have no intention on creating more classes or narrowing sub/amp choices. If I did that would take almost all of the fun out of this.

I still think it will come down to build and sub/port placement more then anything.

Understood.

Though this isnt my competition, my original goal for the 130db wasnt stricly budget-imposed. It was more focused on proper design and ingenuity in order to achieve the goal. Removing those guidelines/restrictions allows people to just slap **** together again. Its less of a chess game now, and more like galaga!

I dont care who gets what score under what budget. For me, it was supposed to be a challenge of the mind. With so many variables in it now its a childs game once again. Meh.

I assure you this is more of a chess game then most will think. By no means is the $150 SPL Challenge a "childs game" if it is you should be able to do it in less and walk away with everything correct?

I thought by now that people would be talking about what they plan to use.

I have one of the HFI 12d4 at the shop so now to find an amp that fits the budget and I would not be embarassed to use.

If I was able to run in this I had a whole setup picked out haha... I don't think it would be fair though since I'm the one promoting and trying to get going.

what sub are you going to use on it though and to get the ohm load low enough? The AP won't leave much of a budget left.
Oh man I read the first thread wrong. I was thinking $150 for the sub, then $150 for the amp ;p Ok, any sub you pick up for the $12 that you have left will be sad even with the AP gain all the way down lol.
