The $150 SPL Challenge

i got my systrm picked out ...now to see what can be done with it....lol...what would a corvette be considered like my old school...i doubt there will be a lot...but i've actuqally thought about bringing it to a USACi show...its more like a storage cubby hole....not really a trunk or a hatch...but after i fought with installing my 8 box i can't see trying it for SPL anymore
Would be a hatch or trunk would be my guess. Any pics of the back? I guess I could just look at your build log..forgot you had pics over there.

4 classes with both legal/outlaw records? Making 8 total classes?
If we do break things down like that i will also offer up 2 extra plaques to the overall highest SPL achieved in legal and then one in outlaw as well.(10 total plaques, meh costs a me a bit, but for a good cause //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif)
that sounds good to me!!!

There it goes.. Someone throwin woofers in a prefabbed box already! Told you guys it would happen, and hes just an example.I say implement some form of rules like the frequency different or cone area/box volume limit to help push out the 'pre-fabbers'.

I say this because in my opinion, in case that person does happen to get a good score, I dont think it should go to someone like that as opposed to someone who perhaps used less woofers and a better design (with more work..) but didnt score quite as high.

I still say put a simpler limit on woofers/cone area and or box. Something such as a single 12, or two 8s. That is, if this is still supposed to be about efficiency and design within the budget. Not "see how many woofers you can throw together for the biggest number". A 140 with two 12s is fine, but a 134 off a single 8 is more impressive to me. Makes people think..

Just rambling more I suppose. Goodluck all.
whos using a prefab? and who cares? Have you tried to put together a sub and amp combo with 150 bucks? Go try it...

We can do that if everyone agrees. Down side is sealed will keep numbers low, thus may result in less participation in some cases.
eh, people who do this will only be going against each other, who cares if the numbers are low? It just seems thats a lot of categories to include right off the bat when theres like 3 total people interested so far.

I see your point, but the other point is to entice people to want to try it. That is how you make things get a bit larger over time. I know that it is a lot to start with, but at the same time, who knows what will happen by the end of the year with this. Could get hella huge and then we are upset we didn't do more classes. It could just stall and die off as well which is no worse then where it this was before this was started.

yeah i have pics there...i was curious at one point and thought about doing a 150+ with it...but i don't think i will now..it would've been fun
I would have to say trunk would be my guess. You remove the baffle just the same as someone would fold their seat down.

i'm actually thinking of going ahead with a second challenge. as i was inspired by, the box design being the main focus. basically, you are confined to driver area, and a set power limit(verified by birthsheet or bench reading).... less time to do it, and somehow find a way for people to fairly use their os subs...... also, the frequency response is a key point. i don't like the guy "winning" with a high frequency burp. most likely will all have to run the same audio track on the reading, which will be provided for dl in the thread....

In my vast experience in this industry most do not like that much "You will do this" type of rules. It almost always has a high failure rate. It will start with a decent group, then just slowly dwindle down to a few or nothing.

I like the idea, just not normally a vast majority type of thing.

well, it's all mailable...... i just can't get the thought of the last comp i wen to in town....... pretty much just a bunch of guys with their "daily driver" pleasure builds, and it was going good...... until the stripped down fart box junker got chained up and the guy just burped it from his little podium outside. sure, it was all legal, and he scored good, but it really just took the fun/spirit out of the whole thing. sure, you can push a single 8 over 150, but it would be nowhere in the musical range, or on the "handshake" side of things

I agree, however, the downside to competitions is just that. Everyone wants to be louder/better then the next guy. There are classes that enforce you to have a more musical type of setup.

It is largely possible that since you lack some respect(no disrespect to you intended) for the work involved for pure spl builds the competition scene may not be for you is all. It is not for everyone that is for sure.

I think my idea would rectify this problem with fart boxes.
I don't see a reason at this time to restrict hz levels in any way. Perhaps if this goes well this year, then next year some rules can be altered more to keep things alive and going.

Too close to SBN/World Finals for me to try anything like this. Won't be changing up anything in my truck until afterwards.
