Testing the B2 Audio "Quota" (1200w @ 1)

I fail.
I was so impressed with the B2 Audio "Zero5" that it got me curious about a more "everyday" amp. I don't mean to imply that the Zero5 or any of their other monsters aren't daily friendly, but after I saw the price on the Quota, it really piqued my interest and I had to get my hands on one.

I contacted Jack Sisco about it and he told me he uses them in a lot of smaller installs. In his words, "they can get pretty rowdy." Lol. Sounds good to me. Wrap it up.

It got here very quickly and I'm a sucker for a small footprint. It's well built and a bit of a welcome relief from the larger amps I usually have to lug around and find a spot for.

It has 4awg power and grounds and my 8awg speaker wire fit in the speaker wire terminals no problem.

Pretty standard here. Subsonic has an "on/off" but no pot so I assume it's set at a specific frequency. I could probably find that in the manual if I ever looked at those things. Also seems to have a variable frequency bass boost if you're so inclined to use it. If it makes you feel better, you could call it EQ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Here be teh guts. I wish I knew enough about amp guts to be all, "ZOMG look at the torroidal!" or whatver... but I don't.

I used my caps for this clamp test because I wanted to get as close to 14.4v as I could since on any decent electrical, you probably won't see less than 14v running this one. I also took a bit of liberty on the inputs. Lmao. I gots voltage. Dual 1/0's to 4awg reducers. I was cracking myself up.

So, bottom line is.. he was right. This little thing can get pretty rowdy. I would have been pleased with rated, but it took it up a notch as I suspected from B2. As usual, set clean on the scope...

1 ohm nominal rising to 1.8 - 1,400w @ 14v.

.5 nominal rising to 1.1 - 1,800w @ 13.8v.

Anyone curious about the reason why the results are very even numbers, I did this test by myself and had to watch both meters. I only took the first two digits and it just worked out that way. It was 28 aca and 50 acv @ 1 and 40 & 45 for .5. I just tested the voltage on the caps post-burp and took that reading for the voltages given even though mid burp they'd have been lower.

And there you have it. Mr. Sisco says he runs these @ .5 daily all the time, but indicated that any lower wouldn't be recommended.

$250 for B2 quality and some nice power in a small package makes this amp a solid buy.

Now if their upper lines weren't so damn expensive I would look into running them...
