Testing subs without box

Found a 12in p3 on CL for 40bucks, considering going by to look at it. Possibly pick it up, my question is if i hook it up without box to make sure its functional. Is there a certain volume i should stay under or anything like that? Thanks, Josh

Just low volume. Start at nearly off and go up a little until the suspension starts moving. You want to check to ensure it works through the whole travel with out any odd noises or anything.

ok thanks, thats basically how i was planning to do it. Anyone have feedback on this sub? Thinking of getting a pre-fab sealed box for it, around .9cu. Ebay has some 1in MDF stuff that would fit

P3 is an ok sub. Not really anything special but does work. You can pick up a sealed enclosure for hella cheap if you look around. Just make sure you reseal the edges on the inside of the enclosure. Prefabs are notorious for leaks.

lol for sure, well i only have a 400rms JBL power 10 in there now. So i figure it could atleste keep up with that

Ha just noticed your form Waco, I pass by there every time I head down to Victoria.

Anyway, yea it would be similar to be honest. I think picking it up and reselling it may not be a bad choice if you can get it cheap enough.

Also bring a digital multimeter to check the resistance of the coils. Each coil should read close to 2 or 4 ohms or whatever the ohm rating it is.

I figured so, sub should be worth about 75shiped right? maybe 20-25 to ship it
