Testing out sub/amp

I want to test the amp and sub that I bought to see if they are functional.

But I don't have a sub box right now. Can I just hook them up with min volume. I like to see if they produce any sound?

Okay to do that experts ?

Btw, its a jl 10w3v3 for a sub and 250/1 for amp.

Why not cut an extension cord and hook it to the sub? You can then plug the other end into the wall. It'll take less than 5 minutes, and it's a sure fire way of finding out if your sub is damaged or not...

Just kidding

this is the way i test all of my subs

Does it matter if its negative/positive? I don't think so, but just asking. So I just want to see if the sub moves up and down?

I have a spare speaker, maybe i used that for testing it first before I touch my brand new sub.

Thanks,

To test a sub you can simply take a D cell battery (or AA or C or whatever flashlight battery) and a short run of speaker wire. Wire up the sub and tap the other leads to the terminals of the battery, it'll give a little pop if it's good. Push in the cone of the speaker gently and evenly and it'll tell you if the coil is rubbing.

+ and - on a speaker is just polarity and not terribly important + and - on an amp will probably smoke your amp if you mix them up....I'd avoid that.

I will give the battery idea a try. No way I can harm the sub? I read somewhere if the polarity is reversed, the sub goes one direction. Not sure where I read it

Thanks,

Tnt

That would be a function of the harness, not the HU, I think. Have you looked into a Maestro or iData interface? i would check with crutchfield...

thanks DB, that definitely helps swallowing a $300 price tag 😂 these would essentially be running midbass for me too
