Testing HU preout voltage.

I just picked up an Alpine CDA-9833, and so far I love the deck. However, I want to check everything out, to make sure it is all in working order.. I picked it up off of ebay, and it said it was in fully working order, but I really don't have amps to check the voltage to test the preouts.

I can get ohms to read out of my preouts, but nothing else... So I'm wondering how I can check to see if my preouts are fine, before I can't return the HU if it doesn't work... I ran a search, but didn't exactly see what I wanted to see..

So, if somebody could please point me in the right direction of what to check, it would help me out a lot..

how exactly did you check it?

what you can do is power it up but leave all the speaker connections un hooked and take a single rca plug and splice it at about a foot in length, hook up the dmm to each of the conductors and and read the voltage, im not sure though if it makes a diference weather or not its a test tone of actual music, im not exactly sure

and basically if it reads 4 volts for example at max volume and your using the HU to power speakers then your going to have to test it out at 3/4 volume as the internal amplifier will start putting out clipped signals through the speaker leads at full, if your only using the HU for signal and have external amplifiers then you will be able to almost have it pinned with a few notches down for a bit of head room

and it might not exactly be at 3/4 where it is clipped through the speaker leads but unless you have an 'o' scope you wont know exactly how high to go
