Testing amps/speakers at home

Ok, so heres my deal. I have a couple old amps and some decent comps that have been sitting in my basement for a while and I want to to test them at home. I can easily go to RadioShack and get an $80 13.8V DC power supply just for testing purposes. Do I need to run an inline fuse? Also how do I get the REM turn on to work on the amp?

I do have a Harman Kardon home reciever that I could test the speakers on, but would it work? I probably need to find the specs and see if the reciever can do 4ohms right? Thanks all.

How so? They are 4 ohm SVC 6.5 woofers. Not sure what the tweets are, or really what the x-overs do. My guess is you mean wire the 2 woofers in serial?
