test a sub without an amp?

hey ive got an infinity kappa and im trying to see if it works. is there anyway i can check the sub without an amplifier? im hoping to sell it on ebay and need to make sure it works first.

Use a 9v battery The sub will pop or move. Also use a dmm and see what the voice coils read.

that will make the woofer move but it could be all blown and sound scratchy

The dmm will tell you if the coils are blown and look the sub over for damage.

what should they read? it is a dvc sub?

you measure the resistance so if it's a dual 4 ohm sub, each coil should measure around 4 ohms.

Yep.

Set your multimeter to DC resistance and then put the positive lead from the DMM on the positive coil input then likewise for the negatives.

If the sub is a DVC 4 Ohm sub then each coil, when measured, should read close to or at 4 Ohms. If a 2 Ohm driver then close to 2 Ohms.

or... connect it to an audio source, seeing, unless you're out camping, with no electricity, I'm sure you would have one!

i would use a smaller voltage batt.. just to make sure it doesnt have a chance of messing it up

alright i used the dmm and it read 4 ohms, and i put the 9V to it and it made noise, what kind of noise is it supposed to make? it sounded kinda scratchy.

is there anyway to cheaply replace the voice coils if they are bad?
