System Fuse Questions ?

I am running the following for fuses:

1 Inline fuse holder

1 Distribution block (2 fuses 40amp, 50 amp)

What size fuse should i run on the inline ? At least a 90amp correct ? I have all AGU fuses and can only seem to find a AGU 80 amp. Should i run the AGU80 or buy a ANL holder and run a 100 amp ?

By using the fuse value of the amplifier you can get an idea of the amount of current draw the will be used under full output power. Although the full output rating is good to determine the total amperage draw in the system, it does not represent the true continuous or averaged amperage draw in the system. Listed below is a simple way in order to determine the approximate continuous current draw of your amplifier.

1.) Determine fuse value of the amplifier.

2.) Divide the RMS power rating by the Peak power rating.

Example: 50Watts RMS Divided by 100 Watts Peak Power = .50 (50%)

Once you figure the percentage of RMS vs. Peak power, you multiply the fuse value of the amplifier by the RMS percentage.

For Example: If the amplifiers fuse value were 30A, then 30A multiplied by 50% would be 15A of continuous current draw.

I would buy the ANL Fuse holder and go with either a 100amp fuse or a 150amp fuse. Either would work, but be more specific about your system setup so we know exactly how much power your system is running.

This is the system:

1 JL Audio 500/1 (50 amp)

1 JL Audio 300/4 (40 amp)

2 JL 10W3V2-D4 subs

Diamond M6 Mid/Tweet

Pioneer DEH-860MP HU

The vehicle is a Dodge 2004 Ram 2500 Cummins Quad Cab. Thanks

I would go with a 150amp fuse...just to be sure
actually, in this case bigger is not better. Your inline fuse is in place to protect the wire from lighting up. if you run a 150 on it and your amps only will ever need 90.. how is that protecting the wire.

If it where me.. I would run an 80, because chances are, unless you run constant test tones for hours on end, you will never ever equal that full 90 amps.

but its your system, and this is a free country so choose whoever's advice you want.
