Switching from 6x9's to 6.5's?

I am considering switching my front speakers from an inexpensive pair of 6x9's (RF Punch 2-way) to a decent component set. The component set would be Morel/ID/Hertz/etc. Not top of the line but ~$250 or so.

I would also replace my RF P1T tweeters with the component set tweeter.

The amp is a RF Punch 400-4 (rated @ 50x4 but is under rated) that I would probably run 2 channel mode.

My main concern is mid bass. I know the RF 6x9's are entry level but they produce pretty decent mid bass IMO and I don't want to "step backwards" so to speak. IOW I know the component set is much higher quality but can it produce the same or more mid bass in the exact same environment as a pair of inexpensive 6x9's?

I'm sure the quality of sound will be superior.

BTW my doors are not deadened/sealed but as i said, the midbass is good right now so I want it to be as good or better without sealing/deadening.

I'm using a pair of focal polglass comps, 165 v2, in one of my cars and they sound awesome. I also have tried DLS reference and they are pretty good and suitable for all kinds of music. The focals are very clear for the fusion / ethnic kind of music I listen to. They made a huge difference compared to the stock blaupunkt 6.5".//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Not sure that helps since you went from oem 6.5's to higher end 6.5's.

Since the 6x9's are larger I am not sure that the 6.5's can produce the same (or more) amount of mid bass.

If you full pass them or cross them low enough, the correct set of components will produce very nice midbass. I cannot comment on them compared to your 6x9s but it will be a big upgrade for overall sq.

6" x 9"s can produce decent mid bass but usually is very sloppy

6.5"s can produce nice midbass and do so sounding very accurate.

I would go 6.5"s for better overall sq. If you are looking for ridiculous bass...just get a sub.
