Featured 6X9 Suggestions

I cannot personally stand any coaxial that is more than a 2 way. This is going to be horribly bright and tinny sounding

That's what I figured and why I turned it down. They just look obnoxious with the huge tweeter. Also agree that there's no reason to do more than 2 way. Though seems like a lot of the 'higher end' 6X9 are 3 way. Infinity Kappa and the Focal ACX690 come to mind.

I'll probably end up getting the YJ 6X9 boxes, look like they'll fit well. I'll just get them on Amazon so I can return them if they don't work out.

Do you actually use your jeep or are you a wannabe offroader? Need more info. I guarantee nobody else took that into consideration.

I wouldn't use anything that absorbs water in a 4x4, but it depends on what kind of offroading you do. Focus on price and durability over sound. I have cheap kicker coax speakers in my 4x4 that have been sprayed with mud plenty of times and still work. Plastic cone and rubber surround.

Yes, I use it. It's a dedicated trail rig. Just picked it up from my mechanic this morning, having some trail damage fixed.

I was able to find the old sound bar pods. Looked at the wiring this morning. Unfortunately, it's proprietary wiring. One square connector that plugs into each pod that has wires for the speaker and light. I was thinking there would be one on each side, but nope. There's one set of wires with two connectors on it that used to run up the OEM roll bar and across. Inside the actual pod is another wire that connects to the speaker. At least it has some older JL 5.25". So back to sounding normalish mediocre.

So the wires are not long enough to reach both sides of the wheel well. It was sounding like garbage with both rear speakers missing, so connected it for now and used to zip ties to hold the pods in place. Follow me for more stellar installs haha.

For now it will have to do. At least half of the music isn't missing making for some odd effects.

It will get some abuse. I don't usually have the top off, but do sometimes. Mud, sand, etc. So at this point thinking I might just get the Alpine 6.5" rollbar pods done. I think it was around $500 out the door with $150 ish for the install. They haven't seen it though. So if they'll do it for that price, might be the best option.

A little broke at the moment from the repairs and other expensive hobbies. So unless there's an easy way to re-do the wires and have them long enough to reach the wheel wells, this will probably have to wait.

All that said, keep in mind those JL 5.25" were in the Jeep when I bought it. I've had it for over 10 years. So 6X9 would probably be fine. Even when the windows are removed, I usually run a bikini top. So even if it was raining, they're not getting rained on directly. 6X9 on the wheel wells would be more exposed though.

Don't overthink it. Cut the connectors off and wire as needed. If they are too short, use them to pull new wires in.

Here's mine for fun:

For my hearing, I prefer the 3-ways. It helps the upper-mid vocals, like female singing voices. Otherwise, a 2-way 6x9 sounds a little dead in the middle.
