switch suggestions kinda long.

i got this small problem with this used amp i bought. it wont power down. sounds simple huh? well its not the remote, as it still wont power down with it disconnected. i know its an internal problem, but the amp works fine besides this

and will serve its purpose until i upgrade. my question is can i even find a switch large enough to turn of power from my 4ga lead, or should i rig up a switch on the amps fuses, as when they are out the amp turns off too. anyone have to do something like this before? i could just buy conections to plug into where the fuses go, and rig up a normal switch from the local hardware store for cheap, and put inline fuses in(2 x 20amp, or 1 x 40amp), or i could try and find a switch that can take a 4 ga wire. are they easy to find? thanks for any help

Even with the remote turn-on input completely disconnected from any sort of power the amp is "On"? As in all it needs is power and ground and that's it?

yup, just power and ground. then the lights come on, and the fans start up. wont play music until the remote is in though.

best buy brand insignia, got it really cheap on ebay so i could have some thump fo a little while. its not worth fixing the internals, but would it hurt the amp to take out the fuses and run wire to them, and put them to a switch with a couple inline fuses rated at the same? i can get those male connecters thay fit right into the fuse holes. i dont think it'll hurt anything as long as i wait till the stereo is off and no remote power being sent to the amp.

As this is not a problem I have ever encountered I truly haven't a clue as to whether or not your idea would be detrimental to the amp. I can't see where it would be, however, as long as the switches you use are rated for enough amperage to cover the possible draw through the line they are switching...

I guess give it a shot and let us know how it turns out?

yeah im gonna have to, im getting tired of unhooking the amp everytime i get out of the car, or pulling the fuses everytime i get out if the car. on to the task.

im gonna make the switch reight beside the amp, so a low gauge wire can be used. i have a couple old broken amps around, so im gonna take out a fuse holder from one of them, and use a single 40amp fuse inline with the switch.

gonna rig it up tomorrow after work. i have to pick up a couple of male connecters that fit the fuse opening.
