Subwoofer setup

I have a '91 Eagle Talon.... Which is a hatchback as most of you know, I have 2 12" subs to place in this hatchback. My problem is I DO NOT want a standard box, not beucase I wanna be different but because I DO NOT want my subs staring at the HUGE back windshield. Any wandering idiot could happen by my car and think to himself "easy pickings!!!". But that leaves me with the problem of how to setup my speakers, making my own box is obviosly not a problem(I even have a professional audio person who will help make it). So my question to you all is... what would be a good way to position the speakers in what area of the hatch to make them as invisible as possible, while still producing good sound!?!?

Not that I like bandpass boxes, but you could build one, do not use plexiglass to showcase it and fire the ports out the front against the bottome of the seat. One problem that you face no matter which way you turn is that if you build a box, it will take up space and be a dead giveaway as to what is there. You may also build a box and fire the subs toward the rear seat, it won't sound quite as good but that is the tradeoff that you must make. Tint the rear window... fibreglass the spare tire wheel well and build up the floor a little bit... You have lots of options, it depends on how creative you want to be..

Do you have a spare tire? Take it out.. fiberglass it and put on nice 12 in there. It would be stealthy and look nice. You really don't need 2 12's if the install is well done.

I do have a spare tire, but would like to leave it there.... I understand that a box no matter what it going to take up space, but a black box is much less appealing to the wandering man, than 2 speakers staring him in the eyes!!! I hadnt throught of a bandpass box. I dunno why I havent but that seems like a good option. Thanks for the info, and anymore you all can think of will be most appreciative. I had thought of using the corners of the hatch to place the speakers in, but its been cold outside and snowy so I have yet to look and see if 12s would even FIT!!!

EDIT - Tinting the back window would work as well, but I have a uh... BIG lack of income at the moment(cant even afford the amp for the subs) ';(

Build a box with the subs facing the rear glass and then make a cover for it that either looks like the factory cargo cover or covered with acoustically transparent carpet (its not that expensive from Parts Express). Another option is to build the box with a double thickness baffle and recess the subs in to the baffle the thickness of one of the baffle pieces and then wrap the whole box in carpet covering the subs completely. Unless you are perfect in the execution and design of the bandpass enclosure, it will sound awful and could damage your subs.

You could downfire, though it isn't always the best option, could also face them towards your seat, though neither of them are necessarily the best options. So far i think the double baffle with transparents covering is the best idea.

So it seems I will probably just try to have some sort of cover to the subs. If anyone else tinks of an idea though I am open to suggestions, it will probably be a little while before I place them in my car, seeing as how I dont have an amp for them ATM, and no $$ for one. Thank ou all for your help!
