Subwoofer + Amp pricing

Was wondering if you guys could help me out, trying to buy someones setup from craigslist but unsure of what used car audio is worth. The gear is:

2x Alpine Type R 12" subs, Alpine MRD-M1005 700rms/1000watt amp, and a 2 Farad Power Acoustic Capacitor. It's in a box that is build for the subs, and everything is connected and ready to go with some power and RCAs.

The setup was bought in 2005, but in good condition. He says he payed $800 for materials, is $300 a fair price? If not what is your opinion of one, maybe I can barter with him.

I wouldn't buy it.

You can buy brand new 10" Type R's from Crutchfield for $99.

it would be alot more appealing to me at about $240 and thats if its NOT beat to death
