Subs that hit that low end bass

It seems your attitude is vastly improving every time I talk to you, which a is a welcome sign of maturity, so thank you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
With regard to your description for the function of a sealed enclosure, take a quick refresher read on a driver's Vas and Qts and how varying a sealed enclosure's volume will impact them and ultimately, Qtc. You were very close on that one, save for a couple details concerning what I've mentioned. Look closely at the relationship between enclosure volume and driver Vas in particular.

You're too smart for your age. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif I know at 20, I didn't have a handle on Qts and such but that was because I was drinking/serving overseas. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Finally somebody put this thread back on track. For a second I thought I clicked into a tutoring session. What the heck? LOL //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Hey, some people like to know what's going on behind the scenes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Anyway, no one asked you any of the following: what type of music do you listen to, what front speakers do you have and are you looking just for output, or output with clarity?

Yeah I was just joking around I appreciate all the help. I listen to christian rap, and I have 8 Polk audio component speakers and am looking for output and clarity.

Fi. Q

Ascendant Audio Havoc

JL W7

Alpine Type X

Re Audio XXX

Dayton Titanic III

Image Dynamics IDMAX

All of these are great SQ subs that happen to get deathly loud. I own/have owned the following: Dayton, Type X, W7 and the Q, and have heard all of the rest. They're great speakers, but out of all of these given what you have, I'd suggest the IDMAX, the Havoc or the XXX. As far as the XXX goes, you'll want one that's 2005 or earlier, aka new, because they changed it significantly and I don't really consider it to be a great SQ woofer anymore.

someone here is selling a brand new idmax for only $250 shipped fyi

go ported, and i never used polyfill in my cvrs 12"s and they were sealed and i could hit 30 but u want to look at the xmax as well, the higher the xmax the lower the sub can go into the subsonic area which is the area below tuning. re xxx has 54mm:wow: but also look at the Fs.

I don't know where you heard this, but that is not true at all. Some pro audio subwoofers can drop down to 15hz with authority but almost all have xmax numbers below 10mm.

And subsonic does not mean frequencies below tuning, subsonic in audio means freqencies below 20hz. Etomologically, it literally means "below" "sound", aka, below where audible sound is produced, although in engineering, it usually means below the speed of sound.

For clarity: that does not mean that a subsonic filter filters below 20hz, it filters everything below what you set it at, thus, it's a high pass filter at the lowest end of the frequency range. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

umm correct me if im wrong here... but im pretty sure the OP is NOT looking at the FS... sounds like he's looking at the little label on the side of the box that says "frequency range XX-XX"... and to the OP... you say you don't want to go down to 2 12s... i understand its probably not as blingin or ballin to have 2 12's as it is 4, but how bad do you feel when someone with 2 12's completely destroys you?

theoretically if you only gain 3db per double cone area, and 3db for porting vs sealed... than 2 12's ported will perform the same as 4 12s sealed... excecpt with a different frequency response (which is what your looking for) not to mention in a correctly designed ported box 2 12's have the potential to be louder than 4 12's sealed. Just a thought...

Why can't OP temporarily attach a 0.08 cu ft block of wood* inside his sealed box using a couple screws, to bring down the internal volume, to see if that cures the problem. You can try different size blocks as needed. If you find one that does the trick, you could just glue it and screw it into place inside the box permanently, or build an all-new box of that smaller volume.

* A standard 2x6 cut 16.76" long equals 0.08 cu ft.; A standard 2x8 cut 12.29" long equals 0.08 cu ft.; A standard 2x10 cut 9.71" long equals 0.08 cu ft.

i could be wrong... but basic physics would state that decreasing the volume of a sealed enclosure will NOT improve low frequency extension
