a high tuned fart box with L7's will get abotu as loud as low tuned daily boxes with xxx's in them........differance being the xxx's will sound beautiful while getting loud, and the L7's will sound like hooker being beatin to death......imo 2 12in 06 L7's in like a 6 cube+ ported box tuned to 34-37 hz, with a good 2500 watts pump'in them, will compete with a pair of 05 xxx's
I would doubt that. I would wager that the MT's and BTL's are watt for watt louder than the XXX. The great advantage they both have is very high efficiency due to low Mms; not as great for low end performance, but a very potent feature in SPL competition when combined with their power handling capabilities. But when it comes to all out SPL the MT/BTL should easily take it....but with more power.
Daily application type power the XXX walks on alot of things
This is going to sound hypocritical because I was once on the anti-Kicker side, but I would have to disagree with some of this.Alot of talk lately about the L7's wining SQ comps. Don't forget guys, the majority of SQ comps are judged at low volume levels. The problems inherant in the square cone design show up worse and worse with more and more excursion. At the lower volume levels of SQ competition the big linear displacement numbers the 'supersubs' put out dont add up to any real advantage, and subs that may not do well at louder sessions (SQL) may still excel at lower volume levels. Im not saying this is necessarily the case with Kicker's L series subs, but they have some definite design issues other subs do not have, SQ trophies or not. Don't let trophies dictate sound preference.
Cone 'break up' does cause problems with a subwoofer, you aren't suggesting otherwise are you Neil? This is going to sound hypocritical because I was once on the anti-Kicker side, but I would have to disagree with some of this.
Yes, a square driver will not be able to excurt as far while remaining linear. BUT, using a flexible surround can combat a lot of this. In fact, whether it remains linear or not will be totally dependent on the suspension and not inherently the shape of the cone. Having seen Cms curves from an 04 15" L7, I would have to argue that there are no suspension issues within the rated xmax. Granted, the L7's have fairly average xmax, but the cone area and excursion combination allows for linear displacement that is equal to or greater than other drivers in their price range without the inherent inductance issues of your typical high xmax driver. It's just a different side of the same coin.

Yes, I would.would anyone consider the 12 MTX 9500 in the neighborhood of the XXX? they fit the price bill as far as i can see
well i just found a dude on here who has 2 nice looking 05 XXX's....looking into that route.9500s over Brahmas? I thought you were looking for a 70/30 SQ:SPL split... The 9500s are more like 40/60 SQ:SPL.
I've heard the 10" 9500 plenty of times and its loud as **** ported but its sound isn't for me. They definately don't sound the worst though...
