subs hit weird

i mean the thing gets hott.hot to the point were you cant touch it..but it did not shut off.maybe i wired it wrong.because when i wired it into 4ohms it the subs sound fine.the box is a lil small but the sub hits good.for getting only 150 watts each.lol

what do you mean out of phase.cause i think that might have been the problem.when i get my new box built.i will have my buddys shop wire it up.untill then iam just gonna leave it in 4ohm.what does out of phase mean.and what causes it to happen, and how do you fix it.

Out of phase is when you have one sub wired wrong. Postives switched with the negatives...It will cause them to cancel out and destroy your output...

personally i don't like hifonics amps. they are really inefficient and produce "dirty" sound. you may find out that you can spend the same as you would on a 2000w amp for a 1000w amp but the 1000w amp, being more efficient and clean, will match, or even out perform, the larger one.

i had a 15"pbx 4.5cu' tuned to 38Hz. i ran a hifonics hercules (2500 x 1 @ 1ohm) and only achieved .2dB over my cadence a7, which does 1200w x 1 @ 1ohm.

look for something that is digital, they are a lot more efficient. if an amp gets hot your loosing power and ultimately sound. also look for a low thd, digital amps usually are pretty low. just as an example my a7 has a thd of .005% and is 95% efficient. (most non-digital amps, hifonics, rockford, audiobahn...., are under 50% efficient and have a thd of .03% or higher.)

just to make sure they are in phase i drew you up this...it sould get you 1ohm

You've played around with the upper level Hifonics, I assume? When I heard Nick L's Magnums running off the Colossus XX, I didn't notice any problems with clipping...

Dollars per watt isn't everything.

Class D amps aren't "digital", they're sometimes referred to as that (incorrectly) because the output devices are switched on and off quickly, but there aren't 0's and 1's inside the amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It's just an analogy to the on/off characteristic of the output stage.

Efficiency isn't everything. Nor is THD //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

thats how i rewired my subs but thats a 4ohm configuration..i have dual 4ohm voice coils.if i cant fit two in a ported box in my trunk iam just gonna go with 3 sealed

It's impossible to say exactly what's causing your problem because you can't know how the subs are interacting with the enclosure //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

This is why pre-fab boxes, especially ported ones, are to be avoided at all costs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I was wondering why it took so long for somebody to say that.

i know effiency and thd is not everything. the point i'm trying to make is that you can't just look at watts. clean, efficient power can have the same result with less wattage.

Efficiency only affects the power drawn from the vehicle's electrical system. The only way this would possibly affect the sound is if the amplifier was not tightly regulated, and the power draw resulted in a significant voltage drop. And even then, the efficiency is not causing the difference, the low voltage is. Which means strengthening the electical system, decreasing the voltage drop would solve the problem.

And, define "clean" for me ? Considering most amplifiers are capable of operating at below 2% THD+N, there is not going to be much of a difference in audible "cleanness". Given your other post, I hope you don't actually think a THD of .03% is going to make any difference.
