subs hit weird

Efficiency only affects the power drawn from the vehicle's electrical system. The only way this would possibly affect the sound is if the amplifier was not tightly regulated, and the power draw resulted in a significant voltage drop. And even then, the efficiency is not causing the difference, the low voltage is. Which means strengthening the electical system, decreasing the voltage drop would solve the problem.
if the amp was more efficient, it would not cause the voltage drop. so the amp getting hot is not a result of inefficiency? my amp has never gotten hot...rarely you can feel a difference after its been on for 1/2hr or so. i always thought the efficiency % they give was a ratio of power in to power out. also it only requires an 80a fuse, which tells me that it doesn't need a ton of power to produce the the results i have achieved.

And, define "clean" for me ? Considering most amplifiers are capable of operating at below 2% THD+N, there is not going to be much of a difference in audible "cleanness". Given your other post, I hope you don't actually think a THD of .03% is going to make any difference.
as far as technical terms...i lack them. but from my experience, used to run a lot of rockford amps which i believe were about .03 - .05 thd, the amp i have now seems to produce a lot smoother "cleaner" sound....i have no idea how else to describe it...sorry. who knows, maybe it's not the thd that i am noticing, i just put the two of them (thd and the sq i have now) together and it seemed to make sence.
