Subs/Amp acting up! help!

okay Ive had my 2 12" JL w1's hooked up to my JL Monoblock 300w amp w/ a kenwood kdc-x494 HU in my truck for maybe a month. I took the HU out the other day to do something, and now the subs will randomly go to a really low volume. They don't cut off, just go really low. if i turn the bass all the way up it equals how they are when the bass is normally just slightly turned up. my amp is designed to never cut off but if it gets too hot it wil make the subs go to a really low volume. But this is happening when the amp hasnt been used for a few hours as well as randomly while playing normal. I checked the rca's, theyre fine. I assume its going into protect mode but i check for the orange light and its never lit up. i took back off the HU to make sure nothing was loose and it was all fine. i checked my ground and it had come loose so naturally i figured that must be it. tightened it back down everyhting was fine for maybe 15 minutes, then the same thing happened. checked the ground and this time it was still secured . Im baffled i have no idea what's wrong. subs still work just arent very loud like they usually are and i know theyre not blown. my guess is wiring or something but idk where to begin! pleaseeee help. thanks

What about the rca cable? I have had them get a short. A good way to rule the amp out is to get an rca to 1/8" jack adapter. Run the amp with an ipod or whatever and see if you have the same issue. Most likely you pinched the rca and one of the two is not making a good connection.

Brand new amp. Checked the rca's no pinch, both have good connection. tested with a voltmeter, got 14 volts. ill check again tomorrow tho. gains set right
