im wanting to buy my first sub, and i had a quick question about this.

so my friends sub is a 12" and his vibrates a lot and is very deep

i would rather have one that doesnt vibrate as much and is more "punchier"

can you achieve this sound with and size of sub.

people have told me 10s are the best for that but found out thats not true, if heard it depends on the box and that any sub can get the deep, vibratious bass and the punchier bass

is that true?

Where in Iowa are you at? I am in C.R.

mainly depends on the box but the smaller subs do tend to have a "tighter" sound to them rather than the "muddy" sound of the bigger ones. Tell us more about you needs/goals. what car you drive, how much box space you have, how much power you want to run, what music you listen to, what's your budget, etc....

hey im right by CR, i live in Center Point

anyways i drive a 99 monte carlo, i dont really use my trunk for anything so i a lot of room in there i guess. like i said id rather have more of a louder punchier bass as opposed to the very deep, and lots of vibration that my friends 12 has. i mainly listen to rap, but some rock every once in a while is always good. for my budget i guess, the least amount of money it takes to get me to a nice sounding system, because i dont really know what a good amp and sub really cost exactly

also i talked to my cousin and he said he could make me a box but if he made it how much quality would i be losing?

my brother-in-laws are from Center Point... derek and Jacob Hilgendorf...

ANYWAYS... if you ever need help hooking stuff up, setting gains, getting stuff built etc... feel free to hit me up!

okay so i need to tell him to make like the smallest box that the sub will fit into? also what does sealed mean?

and for my goals i was thinking either 2 10"s or a 15" which one is better

Cone diameter plays very little role in frequency response other than to help dictate output ability. Larger speakers can plays with more authority because they move more air, and larger subs of the same model tend to have a slightly lower Fs, but you can build a 5-1/4 with an Fs of 20hz, or a 15" speaker that plays midrange.

You seem to be telling us you want a subwoofer that plays midbass. Why does a rap fan want to avoid low bass anyway?

perfect 300 was what i was hoping on spending?

is there any specific types of subs and/or amps that i should be looking at?

also how many watt amp should i have if i was to get a 15
