Sub setup help needed.

I recently updated 4 6x9 speakers in my 09 camry to the infinity kappa w/ amp and deaden my front to doors and rear deck. I got some good advice in previous posts but the money was burning a hole in my pocket and my impatience took over again and I settled with what I thought was the best option available at the local shop. Needless to say, it's 100x better then the stock or anything else I've had in previous cars.

Adding a subwoofer wasn't in my plan for this upgrade but after these past few days, I can really notice the need for a sub.

Once again I need some advice. I'm looking for somthing to give me nice clean bass out of 1 12" sub. Did alittle research on the alpine type r which lead me to the sundown sa12. What other subs do you recommend I look at before picking between type r or sa12 (leaning twords the sa12, don't know why). What's a good option for a box, ported or sealed? Where to order a reliable box (building one myself isn't a option) and what specs do I look for in a amp? I will deaden the trunk if needed.

This is for a 09 Camry. Type of music, 70% of the time it's hip hop and 30% is anything from rock, R&B, international etc.

All advice/help are appropriated.

Whichever sub you choose I'll hook you up with an enclosure. Very affordable and I'm local to you. Pm me if you're interested.

Probably nothing wrong with what you bought, but this is typical shop fair and a lot of them charge arm and a leg for this. Hope you didn't get ripped off. If you're really looking for something good, make sure you get a custom built box and have some patience. Boxes aren't built overnight. I recommend you take up CSCStang on his offer. SA12 should work fine for you. If you want a little louder and for less, check out HDS312.

Don't mean to knock on you, but you should've gone with components for the front, much better sound stage. Probably same price or even less than what they charged you. A lot of us have gone through a ton of speakers, amps, boxes, etc...so we're not just recommending stuff for the sake of recommending.

I know what you mean, I've been collecting and building firearms for personal use for a long time and wasted alot of money on parts only to find out it was a complete waste. Nothing ***** more then spending hours of your time giving advice based on your experience to a newb only to find out they did the complete opposite and paid more for less. That's why I always hit the forums, almost all the time I get accurate, helpful advice from people who know what they're talking about and enjoy it.

The component set up was top on my list and I did get a few ridiculous quotes for installation/labor to make the 6.5 work in my factory 6x9 slots. The biggest reason was, I just didn't feel comfortable letting these shops do any "custom" work in my car. When I asked them what exactly they will do to make it work, the response I received didn't sit well with me. Almost like they didn't know what they where talking about, just making stuff up. The final shop that hooked up the infinity also gave a crazy quote and also recommended I go with the component set up for better sound quality but again it comes with a big custom install/labor charge. At the end I'm happy with the infinity set up probably the best I've heard, I'll just avoid sitting in someone's car that's running components lol.

I'm set on the Sundown SA12 but I'm look into the HDS312. I did PM CSCSTANG and will deal with him for the box. Now I just need the right amp.
