I know what you mean, I've been collecting and building firearms for personal use for a long time and wasted alot of money on parts only to find out it was a complete waste. Nothing ***** more then spending hours of your time giving advice based on your experience to a newb only to find out they did the complete opposite and paid more for less. That's why I always hit the forums, almost all the time I get accurate, helpful advice from people who know what they're talking about and enjoy it. The component set up was top on my list and I did get a few ridiculous quotes for installation/labor to make the 6.5 work in my factory 6x9 slots. The biggest reason was, I just didn't feel comfortable letting these shops do any "custom" work in my car. When I asked them what exactly they will do to make it work, the response I received didn't sit well with me. Almost like they didn't know what they where talking about, just making stuff up. The final shop that hooked up the infinity also gave a crazy quote and also recommended I go with the component set up for better sound quality but again it comes with a big custom install/labor charge. At the end I'm happy with the infinity set up probably the best I've heard, I'll just avoid sitting in someone's car that's running components lol. I'm set on the Sundown SA12 but I'm look into the HDS312. I did PM CSCSTANG and will deal with him for the box. Now I just need the right amp.
