Sub question

Hey guys im lookin to buy new subs. I was lookin at the Thunder 4500's because they will work good with my amp Alpine MRD-M301. Or so I think. I was just wondering if you guys think that would be good or if I should consider a diferent brand other than MTX? Because my old ones are MTX road thunders. I don't really wanna spend more then $100 for each one. Thanks

O yeah Im using a sealed box. If that will change anything.

2 for $119 With the 150 watt rms would match up good with your amp.

Was going to say get 2 RE's but they are dual 4 ohm so those wouldnt work to good with your amp.

These subs got good sq? No shop near me carrys rockford fostgate so I cant go in and see how they sound. Im lookin for sq and some more spl.

Wish i could help you out there. I just seen it was a good deal. I have heard some of the older models like the HX and HE's and they sounded pretty good. Remember majority of sq comes from install. But i will let someone else comment on those.

im not a fan of mtx or fosgate, they are fotm brands like audiobahn, etc imo

but with only 100 bucks a piece your not looking at very many options.

imo youd be better of spending up to 200 bucks on a single sub and get a badass one then getting 2 cheap ones

Thats what i was thinking but with only 300 watts to work with that sets some limits

But ya know Rockford, MTX and AudioBahn have been around a while so they must do something right

yeah they market right lol

no offense to anyone who uses the above brands.

in my area first it was fosgate, everyone had them, all the stores sold them. then everyone all at once moved to mtx, then everyone moved to audiobahn. going back about 5 years ago.

with the prescence of much better companies in some of the local shops (mmats, jl, etc) it just seems to me that the only reason anyone runs that shit is because everyone else does.

they all may have some solid products, but i wouldnt run any of it just because its fotm.

they are like nike shoes, 90% of the people that wear them dont buy them because of how well they perform. they buy them because everyone else does, they just want the name on there shoe.

just my opinion anyways

What do you guys think about 2 Alpine type S subs or 1 type R? Would my amp be able to handle 1x type R? Because my speakers front and rear are all Alpine.

imo alpines are overpriced, but they sound good. you could prolly find some on ebay for a good price.

The older Type R was one of the best, if not the best driver at that price point, at least online. Retail they're overpriced, but so is everything else...

BUT that doesnt answer my question. I just wondering if my amp can drive 1 if i wired a 4 ohm dvc to 2 ohms. it would be 350 rms at 14.4volts. and its 159$ @ http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14954. Casue ive heard good things about the type R from these boards and other places around.

hmm they are 500 watts rms. 350 is kinda low, but should be fine until you can get a better amp.

you can get 500 watt amps on ebay for 100-150 bucks.

Run it ported...that will maximize efficiency, so you don't need to send the driver its full RMS. You don't need to run @ full RMS for any sub; 350W would be fine for a Type R.

so sealed woudnt be good then with my amp? Cause i only know how to build sealed boxes. I dunno how to tune a ported box or any of that fancy stuff.
