how can i see if my sub is still working without hooking it up to my car. i have no wires run and my sub stopped working when i took it out of my other car. the surround came loose from the cone so i reglued it. could this have cause it to stop hitting? can i hook it up in some way to check?

If you had a tone generator you could test it, you could also try hooking it up to your home surround sound if u had one, dont leave it hooked up just try it out

best bet would be a tone generator, or you can find a friend that has a system, or bring it to a shop to test it

A dmm will only tell you if it's impedance is right. If there's a short in it or the tinsels are broke, you won't get a reading.

A ghetto way I sometimes test my speakers to see if they still make noise is to take my chordless electric screwdriver and attach wires from it's battery packs metal sideplates/terminals to the terminals on the sub. If it works it'll make a bass hit. You can only do this though if the batterypack is between 12-15V. Any larger of a battery & you can hurt the sub. You can do the same thing with your car's battery.

9 volt battery. positive to positive negative to negative of course.

ok ill try the 9 volt. what about dual voicecoil? does it matter?
