Sub and amp question

Not sure where to put this!!

I have an old Kenwood PS300T amp that I got for free that works great and it pushes 300 X 1 RMS, so being the cheap a$$ that I am, I went out and bought 1 12" Kenwood KFC W12PS that can handle 250 watts RMS. I went to Kenwood's site and asked them if I can run these together, they advised not to....I'm assuming that I'm going to get a different answer here!

I've had a couple of friends tell me if it's clean power, it shouldn't be a problem...not even sure what that means to be honest with ya....what is "clean" power...a good name brand versus junk?!

To give you an idea of where I'm coming from, last time I had a system set up in my car was like 15-20 years ago...and now my brother just recently got into it also again and he has 2 10" Type E Alpine's getting 200 a piece and I think they sound awesome...telling you this so you already know I'm not hardcore or looking for the "best" setup....

Just looking for your 2 cents on the amp and sub combo listed in the first paragraph!

clean power is usually accomplished by setting the amplifier gains correctly and not driving the amp into a heavy clip. Too much heavy clipping will cause the sub voice coil to overheat and fail. The amp you have should produce 400w rms at 4 ohms when bridged mono at 14v(300w rms @ 12v) The problem I forsee is the sub is a really cheap made sub and I suspect it may reach it's mechanical limits rather quickly on that much power.

Alright, quackhead...thanks for your 2 cents...how do I go about running 14 volt versus 12...isn't 12 the standard? And also, are cheap subs nowadays not as good as they used to be? I used to have Kicker Impulse, a 12", and that thing was great for what it was made for...it was an attempt for Kicker to make a budget sub...not sure if they still make an entry line...I know they don't make the Impulse anymore.

Also, maybe I could just have the gain at like half until I can get a decent sub that can handle 400!!
