Poorly amplified speakers - I think I made a mistake and could use advice

Hi all,

I recently bought a daily driver beater, a $4000 Crown Vic (former police car). Car came with an atrocious factory system.

I replaced the front speakers with Infinity Kappas (6x8, factory drop-in), left the rears stock, and put in a Pioneer DEH-X6500BT.

Well, it sounds like doo-doo. The speakers can handle up to 100 RMS and my deck is giving it about 20 RMS, if even that. The rear speakers (stock) are actually providing ALL of the bass while the fronts really aren't doing much at all.

Is my best course of action to get a 4-channel amp (recommendations?) and a second set of Kappas for the back? There is a slim chance I'll want to add a sub+amp later on - I am looking for adequate bass and I am hoping to get that out of a well-amped Kappa speaker. Is that possible?

Since this is only my beater, I am looking for bang-for-buck solutions.

Thanks very much for any advice!

Have you double checked the wiring on the front speakers to make sure one of them is not out of phase? You can install a set of components in the front and move the fronts to the back. Add some deadening to the doors and try to seal them best you can to increase the bass response in the front mids. You are looking at about $150 at least for a decent 4ch. with @ 125w per ch rms. For a sub, you are looking at about $300 for a decent sub/amp combo at around 5-700watts rms. A decent set of components will run about $150.

Hi all,

(Yes I know the car is atrocious, my normal car is a GT-R, I needed a daily driver/beater and I love this big boat)

I'd like to try to avoid going the sub-woofer route for the time being. Can I get good bass response from these 6x8" if I have a good 4 channel amp driving them? Here are the speaker specs:

Speaker Specifications

Speaker Size 6" x 8" (also mounts in most 5" x 7" locations)

Design 2-way

Tweeter Design Dome

Tweeter Composition Metal Matrix Diaphragm

Woofer Composition Woven Glass Fiber

Woofer Surround Rubber

Peak Power Handling 300 watts

RMS Power Handling 100 watts

Sensitivity 94 dB

Frequency Response 40 - 25000 Hz

Impedance (Per Voice Coil) 2 ohms

I am looking to spend $300 or less on the amplifier. If I can get under $200, even better. But I want it to have plenty of power to drive those speakers.

OR - is it a mistake to bother amplifying these? Will I not get decent bass out of them ? Right now they're only getting 14w RMS.

dude gtfo. first off, no one in Montana probably knows what a GT-r is. Second, if your budget it under 300, or even 200 on an amp, how did you afford a 95k car? third, if you drive a gtr, youre daily driver would probably be like an infiniti g35, wrx sti, evo.

if you want better output. get an diamond d3 600.4, or look into arc, b2 quattro. etc. then amp your speakers.
